96 K1100RS...76,000 miles.
For a while I’d been having what I THOUGHT was a sidestand issue; I would lift the sidestand and the fuel pump wouldn’t run, but if I put it down and lifted it again it would.
Then I brought the bike into the shop for something else. Two days later they called me to say it wouldn’t start. They ended up replacing the fuel flange (pump?)
I rode it a couple times...then the fuel pump wouldn’t run again.
Took it back to the shop. They couldn’t replicate the problem.
Got it home, rode it a few times. Now tha fuel pump isn’t running again.
The side stand now seems to have nothing to do with it. The shop says they tested the side stand switch and it is fine.
Is there a relay somewhere?
What do you guys think? _________________ '20 R1250RS - The RS

Sidestand switches can be finicky.
I fixed one by putting a short piece of vacuum hose over the tang on it.
All the sidestand switch does is send a ground to the Motronic.
If you follow the wiring up from the center stand on the right side of the bike you will find a two wire connector. You can unplug that and short it to bypass the sidestand switch.
Here's what the connector from the sidestand switch looks like:

I also experienced an intermittent fuel pump issue years ago.
Checked the kill switch, not it.
Checked the side-stand switch, not it.(also with vac tubing on tang)
Checked the fuel pump relay, not it.
Checked the fuel pump 4-pin connector, not it.(cleaned and greased)
Changed the fuel pump, not it.(so now I have a spare to carry when I travel)
Ended up being the multi-pin connector on the top of the motronic.
Cleaned it with some electronic contact cleaner, connected/disconnected a few times and then added some dielectric grease(to keep moisture out) and it hasn't skipped a beat since then. _________________ Ride safe.

Just wanted to follow up on this...the gap in time is because of the weird winter, and not getting in any riding at all.
Scott was right...the problem was the multi-pin connector on top of the motronic unit.
Cleaned it up as Scott described...but then winter came and I have only recently gotten enough rides in that I am confident it is fixed.
Thanks - as always.
I've had this bike for 18 years...and this site has been invaluable in helping me keep the beast going. _________________ '20 R1250RS - The RS
