My K1100rs after sitting in the garage all year it has a stuck front wheel.
the front wheel/brake is froze. what is the best way to get it apart?
The garage the bike was in is a dry garage, and the bike was also covered.
Thanks Bob _________________ 74,R90S

A reply to someone from Durham NY from someone in Durham UK.
It isn't unusual for a wheel to seize onto a disc if it was last used several months ago and it was left slightly damp. Yours seems to be a worst case scenario and there are several ways you could deal with it. Any of them may work.
1) With the bike in neutral gear and off the centre stand try to rock the bike backwards and forwards. The pads will eventually give up the struggle An assistant may help-K1100 bikes are not lightweight
2) You could try starting the bike and in 1st gear try to pull away. Again the struggle may force the pads to give up.
3) If all else fails you could disconnect the brake pipes and then remove the wheel complete with the calipers. A sharp tap on the front and rear of each caliper with a small hammer may release the pads. Or unbolt the discs from the carrier and exerting sideways pressure this may do the trick It is largely a 'trial and error' scenario.
I think it would be inadvisable to use a heat source as this may damage the seals.
More than likely you will find corrosion in the disc itself where the pads were. If they are cleaned up you may find the rust isn't too deep and after a few miles with new pad the marks will vanish. _________________ 1997 K1100LT

If you are on original brake lines, they could of closed off and locked the brake on, you might crack the banjo bolt going to each from caliper and see if you can force the pads free with a screwdriver.
Do you know which one it is? You might tap on the rotors with a rubber hammer to knock things loose, if the brake is locked up I would think the caliper/pads/rotor would be pretty solid, if free there should be some movement and rattle. _________________ 2014 R1200RT Water Cooled

Remove caliper bolts and push n pull caliper side to side to push pistons back in.
If you hold it at the top and rock it in and out. _________________ 1994 K1100 LTSE + Blackbird |
