Hi all, haven’t posted in awhile, bu I’d like your feedback . I was in an accident in Big Timber MT, I’m fine. The damage appears to be just the fairing right side, whole fairing is toast. Probably damage to steering assembly and forks. Looking at the engine fron radiator on back appears intact and in good shape. Probably won’t be able to tell forsure until remaining fairing is removed.
More than likely insurance will total it. Do you think it would be worth it to buy it back and part it out or fix it or take my $$$$ and run. I can post pictures later if you like.

Thank you

Since you're posting we'll happily assume and hope that your body faired much better than your bike.

If both the fairing and forks are badly damaged then I wouldn't bother fixing.

Buyback vs. how much you think you think you could part if for is the next question. Also, do you want to invest the time and effort required to part it?

On the bright side, if you want to get another LT then they are usually very reasonably priced these days.

+1 on Duck's comments.

If it hit hard enough to mess up the steering and forks, it's very possible that the frame can be also damaged/tweaked beyond the point of rebuilding.

Hey Brian - if it has fairing and fairing bracket damage, it's probably totaled. That stuff is not cheap - especially when repainted with Glasurit.

I could have bought the same exact K as mine - in pristine condition, with only 40,000 miles for $2,500.00. About 5 hours from me. Instead I spent over $6,000 fixing the K and waited 2.5 years to get it back (while the painter twiddled his thumbs, junk - or something...) The K has a little over 90,000. The insurance company did cut me a check for almost $4,000.00 - I was totally surprised - this was late summer 2015.

Sadly, the 40,000 mile K didn't show up until repairs on my K were well under way.

Good to know you're OK! I'd probably look for another K.

Thanks for the advice I've been thinking the same thing, take the $$ and run. If I get anything close to what you got Jim I'll be ecstatic, considering I paid only 3500 for it. I did forget to mention there is another problem. Now that I'm back home in PHX, I'd have to go and get it, so not worth it I think.

You are right Duck, I'm bruised up pretty good, and right knee is swollen pretty bad. I got off real well I think, could have been much worse.
