Hey folks. Decided to split the 900 miles into 1/3 (today) then 2/3 tomorrow. Staying at a friend’s vacation home on a lake in northern NJ.

See you all tomorrow at HM

Made it home around 8pm ash last night. Was great to see everyone, and the weather for the first two days of riding were excellent!

I propose we call this the "Year of the Mouse".

Very Happy Very Happy

Good morning HM-KOG'ers.....

For those of us that went, or were going, to HMSP-11 this year, you know I had to cancel at the last minute due to and eye injury suffered just 4 days before "take off"... The prognosis at that time was not good...On HMSP Arrival Day, I was in an eye clinic in Boston having the remnants of a wooden fence post removed from behind my left eye. They called the process "irrigation" which conjures up all types of agricultural images, but in reality they explained it was simply to remove whatever blood had leaked and remained in the socket behind the "eye ball" itself. Luckily...."right Luckily"... the splinter just penetrated the bone mass which defines the outer periphery of the eye socket itself, actually stopping the splinter from entering and doing any irreversible damage. The splinter ( 1" or longer portion of hardened wood for pasture fencing ) shaped like a tent peg simply went in making its own hole, creating a lot of blood and traumatizing the eyes muscular membranes slightly.. So, after removing all traces of wood and blood residue, the hole ( appx 1 mm in dia ) was plugged, 2 stitches to close the wound, I ended up with a big gauze pad and a nice black eye patch to wear for a week or so.

The patch is now gone, so no more Pirate look,,,, and I have exercises to do constantly during the hours Im awake. These consist of moving the eyes up/down/diagonally as frequently as possible to restore muscle function and response. Focus is still a problem, and peripheral vision is slowly returning, but Im sure thankful for two things: Safety Glasses with side shields,, and my sons Veterinary kit with everything needed for emergencies whether "Human or Equine"... The 'side shield" though penetrated really took the brunt of the force, and the Vet kit handled the immediate bleeding..

Took a nice short "moderate speed" ride yesterday in the New England sunshine (a rare occurrence) and noticed just how important peripheral vision is to those of us who ride. Im told there should be no long term effects, and even at 76 ive got plenty of riding years left. Despite the positive outlook and the good healing thus far, I'll not be ready to ride the Moto GP anytime soon !

Best regards all.... Ride Safe.....// Ernie in NH

Hi Scott....

That is terrific news... I know we are all very thankful to hear that you are "full throttle" on the road to HM-12. Compared to what you have been through, and what Sean (Rydor) went through... my minor run in with a pointed projectile, now seems like a mosquito bite ( thanks to safety glasses and side shields ) .... next year the three of us will have a tale or two to tell..eh!

Continue the healing,, and whenever you do get back on 2 wheels,,, Ride Safe,,,,// Ernie in NH

Oops. Sorry Ernie. I did get a few, but only 1 of actual riding. This was the year of K bikes being outnumbered by R bikes (if you consider 3 to 2 being outnumbered)

Bikes parked at the lodge

Yeah- that is the new-to-me fugly RT on the right side in the above picture.

OK, folks help me out here- we rode up Mt ?? for the view. That's Shelby in the background behind Sean's R11 with Chuck sitting on his. And yeah that UGLY RT on the left.

Of course, it wouldn't be an official HM without some bike mechanical or electrical disaster. So Jim "volunteered" his K1100LT........

But to add to the fun, we had a trailer electrical tech session, courtesy of Rydor

But all those problems were forgotten when Audi-Wan Kenobi dropped out of hyperspace to battle the evil (K bike gremlin) empire.

All in all, an interesting Hungry Mother.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Thank you John....!!

Having missed the entire 'flavor' of HMSP-K11 this year, your photos are a balm for my sore spots, and maybe Scott's as well. Thanks a Zillion,,,,

Also great to see/know that our fellow in "worthlessness", Rydor (aka Sean ) is back. Needless to say I missed him and all of you this year.

Best regards everyone...Ride Safe...// Ernie in NH

John - you guys rode up Whitetop Mountain (sister to Mt Rogers, highest peak in VA - not accessible by vehicle - and named for the founder of MIT). Whtetop is the second highest peak in VA.

The hike up to Molly's Knob was enough for me...
