Hey Ernie,
At HM 6 or 7? Can’t remember (it was the year after Jen moved to Ca.) I did lots of back roads to Marion. 209 out of Kingston NY was great all the way to Pa. I tried to stay off of interstate highways.
We don’t care if you ride goat paths to get there!
I might be there with the new (to me) RT or on my iron butt K-RS
It will be here before you know it _________________ John & Cathy

128 days until HM 11 - right around the corner...
I'll have to bug the mechanic - see what the chances are of getting the K75 together by then... _________________ Jim

Merry Christmas!
For the record Jim's K bikes are like unicorns and big foot, you guys talk about them, but I've never seen Jim on anything but an R bike.
Do Jim's K bikes exist? _________________ 2014 R1200RT Water Cooled

Well, I know personally that the 1100 LT SE exists, Shogs and I actually put it together at the mechanics one year so Jim could ride it...... before it was damaged again and sent back to the mechanic. _________________ Ride safe.

Yep - the first time it went down, I think it was the wind - looked out the door 12.26.10 - the K was down on the curb.
This last time it was definitely hit and run - early July 2015. Got the insurance stuff squared away, took it to the shop in September 2015. That shop closed January 2016. The (now former) shop manager took it to his new shop (near Richmond). The painter couldn't get his act together - and was ultimately the one who held the whole process up. Needless to say - I won't be taking anything back to him...
Everything appears to be working (including the Fuel+) except the ABS - it went bad after the 2010 incident. I'll have to get that off and sent to Module Masters. They should be able to bring it back to life - stuck piston, I think. The seat needs to be recovered - that should have gone to Sargent while the bike was in the shop. The new rear speaker assembly needs to be installed. The mechanic scratched the side covers - I took them to the other painter. Will call him this week to check progress on those. When all is said and done, I ended up spending more than twice what these bikes sell for... But it's mine. It's safely stored in a friend's garage right now - along with the R100 and the Vespa.
The K75RTP is another story... Advertised as meticulously maintained, in very good condition. It was definitely neither - maybe rediculously maintained... Couldn't tell much from the ad pix - but I sure could tell a lot by the time I got to NY and saw it. It needed a bunch of new parts (again, the (other) painter took his sweet time), and a lot of work. Think I'll run down to Richmond this week to see how things are progressing.
The RTP is a '92, and judging from the stack of service tickets, spent as much time at Hammersley as it did at UVA. Since the State of VA was paying for repairs, I guess Hammersley (Lynchburg) pretty much did whatever they wanted to do to the bike. I don't know who beat it up, but it was in sad shape for a bike with only 42,000 miles.
So, yes, there definitely are K bikes... And I should definitely be on one of them. _________________ Jim

Getting closer- more than 2/3 of the year since HM X.
Got to get into the garage and start some yearly maintenance on both the R and the K. Good thing the garage is heated since it has been -20 F.
Heading out for some xc skate skiing and speed skating in the next few weeks. 😀😀 _________________ John & Cathy

103 days to go... almost 102 - be here before we know it!
Mechanic says he's not sure he can get the RTP together... should have taken it to Audi...
Now it's a toss up between that muther of a K11 - or the RT. Have to see about getting the ABS going, I guess. _________________ Jim

Again, I've only been to three HM's, but never seen Jim on a K bike.
Side note, the guy that bought my K, and shipped it to LA, has decided to sell it. He's the son of a good friend of mine. I'll post it in the for sale section in the next day or so. But, if anyone knows anyone on the left coast looking for a bike, it will be a deal. _________________ 2014 R1200RT Water Cooled

Which means Monday we are double digit midgets!
Was almost 70 today, and took the R bike for a ride. Coming home I noticed a gas smell, and found there is fuel dripping from he tank vent line. I though I had fixed this a month or so ago, it had stopped. Looks like it's the vent line INSIDE the tank, so I get to take it all apart, again, and replace the lines inside the tank this time. Always something with 17 year old bikes.
Hope everyone is warm and dry. HM is coming! _________________ 2014 R1200RT Water Cooled

The good part about the coming HMSP XI is YES its not gonna be long now,,! The bad part (at least for me) is that Ive got 2" of ICE covering every surface outside that I can see...Its only 7 degF tonight,, I hope Sugar Hill has it somewhat better. You may be riding in SC, but here in the Arctic its hard to imagine that we'll ever be on a bike in just 3 months !
Have fun all,, and YES, do remain warm and dry !...../ Ernie in NH _________________ AMA,, American Deaf Bikers
