After being caught a few times with the side stand down and the bike not starting, I thought I needed a visual. The dash has the redundant choke light sitting there looking bored with nothing to do.
After removing the dash, I found there was no wire in the loom to tie into.
One option would be to find someone to cut the connector off a wreck to get the connector part I needed or run an extra wire out of the dash in an inconspicuous way.
I went with option 2 and soldered a wire near pin 12 of the connector. If this wire is grounded, the light comes on Part one done.
Looking at the stand connector, I found that one of the wires has 12v all the time and the other only when the stand is up.I needed a relay to get the switching I needed. The relay needed to have a N.O and N.C. terminal. Most that I had in the shed were not suitable including the new one in a pack. Option two was to see if my car had one that it didn't need One small win for me. I fitted the new relay for the headlights in the car and all is good.
I fitted the relay so the stand powered the relay coil and the 30 terminal to earth, the "a" switched terminal goes to the light wire.
The relay is now inside the relay box under the tank.
No more seniors moments wondering why the bike isn't starting. |

Drill an extra small hole in the cluster backplate.
Strip the end of a wire and insert it under the bulb holder for the choke light.
