I have had very good luck with Moto-bins. Yeah they are in the U.K. but good prices and rapid delivery.

They have a good reputation and tend to be the cheapest of the three main independant spares dealers in the UK. _________________ 1997 K1100LT

If it's in good shape, but leaking, you can put a rebuild kit in it for 1/3 the price of a new one. _________________ 2014 R1200RT Water Cooled

Well, after replacing the seals in the MC I finally had a good firm pedal....for about 5 miles. By the time I got to work the rear brake was once again useless. I put the bike on the side stand and pressed the pedal with my hand only to be rewarded with a little stream of brake fluid from the junction of the rear fitting of the rear brake line and the rubber hose. New SS line kit on the way from Speigler. 20 year old rubber lines ARE NOT TO BE TRUSTED!! |

I haven't seen a rear line leak, but the front lines seem to break down inside, and are hard to bleed, and have a mode where you hit the brakes and they don't release , they kind of hang. Mine is like new with the rear rebuild and new SS lines. _________________ 2014 R1200RT Water Cooled

A bit off topic but what do you attribute the 51/54 mpg to? Mine almost always does 41/42mpg. 105,000miles. |

Dave, I can say that I get my best mileage on my '95LT when I'm riding 2up, or 1up loaded for traveling. 48+ _________________ Ride safe.

Those two tanks were at Hungry Mother two weeks ago. I use premium gas, I have a new air filter, four hole fuel injectors, new plugs and wires, and I balanced my throttle bodies. I also check tire pressure and try to ride "smooth" as in no drag bike acceleration, nice and easy on the brakes and throttle in the turns.
The only major change is to install a 170 degree thermostat. Some say it doesn't work, but Porsche put them in the GT cars and claim better millage and more power.
I've gotten 48+ several times, but those were my best two tanks. _________________ 2014 R1200RT Water Cooled

Are the stock injectors different from the 4 hole ones? |

The stock injectors have one hole for the spray, mine have 4 holes. My bike has about 18k miles on it and runs like new. I attribute the MPG to the lower temp thermostat, balanced throttle bodies, premium gas, and a smooth style. The LT is NOT a drag bike, but does well in the corners. I try to be smooth. _________________ 2014 R1200RT Water Cooled

Where would one find these 4 hole injectors and how much are they? Do you think that they are worth the money? |

That's the guy on eBay I got mine from. Fit like the original, make sure you wets the seals before you try to install them. The biggest change in "smoothness" was balancing the throttle bodies. after the plugs and injector changes. I have a four column stick if anyone needs to borrow it. _________________ 2014 R1200RT Water Cooled

Bear in mind that a UK gallon is more in terma of volume than an American one. In litres that is exactly 4.546 litres.
In UK with more congested roads, I can get a figure in the high 50's. 58 is perfectly normal and occasionally 60+ it all depends on the terrain and how congested it is. The quantity of fuel paid out can vary with ambient temperature and the UK pumps are calibrated at 15 degrees C, so high fuel consumption could be down to the ambient temperature and an incorrectly uncalibrated filling station pump.
To understand this theory. Get a graduated measure and fill exactly it with say 2 pints of cold water. heat the water to around 15C and measure again. Mark the measure and now heat the water to around 30C and you will be surprised at the apparent increase in volume from the original amount. (I also believe that fuel being volatile will expand more than water per a given original volume). Only thing being the apparent volume has increased but not the actual quantity so you will get quite significant variations in consumption which has nothing to do with the state of tune of the bike.
(When you think about it if the fuel is warm when it is put into the tank you will be getting less for your money.)
The figures I gave above are for UK but when I am over on the Continent of Europe I regularly get over 60 and that is at speeds in excess of 70. I don't know if the fuel is better quality, but the proof of the pudding is there. The same happens with every bike I have used over in Europe. _________________ 1997 K1100LT
