My family and I will be moving from Spain to the United States next summer, I'm going to sell the cars, it doesn't worth to take a European car to the States, but my motorbike is something very different.
I'm collecting information in order to take the old K11RS with us and I am finding it very difficult to find this information. If any of you have any information that can help me (from DOT or another) I would greatly appreciate it.
Best regards,
Miguel

You might do a quick look online and see if you can find an RS in the US, cheaper than shipping you bike over. If bikes follow the same EPA info as cars, unless the bike is more than 25 years old, it will have to be modified to meet the same requirements as the model of bike sold in the US. My 93 has an O2 sensor and converter in the exhaust. If you happen to have a US model bike shouldn't be a big deal. With used parts might not be that big of deal to modify yours, but then you still need to pay shipping.

Most states will take your bike with your VIN (California, etc being the exception). Unfortunately, you'll have a hard time getting insurance with a VIN they can't look up. Bring the bike with you if it has value to you. I agree that the bike might be a better purchase in the US vs shipping from over seas.

There may be folks on this forum that would help you find one here in US.

Thanks a lot guys. Well, I confirmed all your comments and actually it's a nightmare to take my 92 K11RS AKA "Ladrillo Volador" to the States. It's been a long time together, 23 years, but family comes first, and we'll have many other things to arrange and solve.
I hope I'll find a good buyer for her, such is life, it is what it is.
Thanks a lot again for your time and comments.
Miguel.

I would NEVER suggest anything illegal, but what if you took your bike apart, and shipped it in as parts, and then bought a bad engine k11 here, and used the US frame and rebuilt your bike with US VIN?

Waw, that sounds complicate. Another complication is that if you send all packed together, (same container), and there is a problem with the bike, parts, etc, the border guys can stop the whole container, with all your belongings. In such case I can forget the bike and the rest of my problems because my wife will kill me without any argument or prior conversation.
Thanks a lot for the suggestion.

Let us know where you are moving to and I am sure there will be someone nearby that can help you with local information and things like that.
