Well I did it Butt's a bit sore (it is an official IBA ride after all) and the Earth has 75 less gallons of gas.
Last Saturday I left Brooklyn at 4am along with 20 other people to do the 50cc Not Superman Rally. 46 hours and 15 minutes later my brick and I were at the GG bridge. That included a 3 hour stop in Ogallala, Nebraska for a quick sleep and shower. Most of the others were somewhat faster and 2 riders were MUCH faster to arrive
A few things were discovered......
- there are a LOT of bugs out there. The AeroFlow windshield did its job of reducing that population by a thousand or so 😀
- because of said windshield and the drag it creates, climbing the long passes in Wyoming and Nevada needed WOT to maintain 90 mph 😳
- because of all that the bike averaged just under 38mpg and given the long deserted distances out west, the 4 gallon auxiliary tank was pretty necessary.
The other riders there would fit in well with the usual HM crowd. Very nice but slightly demented bunch (most hardcore IBA people are).
So I am spending yesterday and today (Tuesday) with Jen and her fiancé Brian since they live just south of S.F. Tomorrow I start the relatively easy ride back east, but taking 4 days instead of 2.
But the 50cc ride is in my done list.
(BTW, whyoldbill I still own you a picture of the Reynolds rack you sold me. It did the job of carrying the aux tank.)
I think I need another nap.......... _________________ John & Cathy

Did all of the riders who started complete the 50CC?
I assume you got a BBG too, right? _________________ 93 LT (x2)

One rider turned back in Pennsylvania due to some sort of vision problem.
All the others made it- the last finisher got in with about 2 minutes to spare. The guy who was the 3rd in did it on a Harley soft tail with no cruise or throttle lock and no aux gas tank. Hard core.
I didn't bother to do the BBG cert since I had done one back in June at the Minuteman1000 (this was the first year that they offered a BBG in addition to the usual ss1000 and 24 hr rally) and I was concentrating on getting my sweating body to SF for the 50CC finish.
Before the ride one guy had asked if anyone wanted to add a few more miles and get a BBG3000 but no takers. I do believe that after a brief stop 1 or 2 riders were thinking of turning around to try for a 100CCC. Not sure though.
Heading back east today at a slightly easier pace. _________________ John & Cathy

Back home now. 4 days of 500 to 1100 miles. Lot of country out there and an amazing difference between west and east.
FD, some time ago you posted that having cruise control on the bike is almost like cheating on an IBA ride. While I understand your thoughts, NO WAY would I do that ride without one.
From Wendover, Utah to Salt Lake City is 120 miles DEAD flat and straight. BORING! And Nevada is worse.
I put the bike on CC and had breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Pictures of the faultless K100RS tomorrow. The bike ran and ran and ran. Used just over 1 quart in over 6000 miles of hot, fast (hours at 85+mph) riding. _________________ John & Cathy

Bah, I did my 50CC on my K75RT without cruise control. And trust me, crossing long flat Texas in the middle of the night is danged boring.
That said, once I figured out how to install cruise control on a K it's one of the first mandatory mods I do to any K I take possession of. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Did manage to get a picture of the morning after we arrived in S.F. before we all went to breakfast
and the rack/tank combo that was really necessary due to the western states headwind.
The happy but a bit tired 50CC riders
Yours truly at the finish after 46 hours, 15 minutes. Don't I look like the life of the party? Actually I really enjoyed the whole trip.
