If you want to believe the frames are the same, go ahead.
Start your project and stop arguing with people who's opinion you solicited.
Have fun. |

+1!
So much noise to find out if one can put a RS fairing subframe to a LT frame.
Could add (to keep the noise alive) that all K11LT have the hinged lift handle......
but early K11LT's have a single upper tube at the headstock, and late K11LT's
have a double upper tube (like the RS)....change: -94 year model. |

It seems to me that it would be a hell of a lot easier to sell the LT and buy an RS, there are plenty out there.
As to the frames: I don't know and I don't care. But you come onto a web forum and instantly start arguing with the people you asked for information. The person you are arguing with has worked on many, many K bikes and I would absolutely consider an expert.
I have no idea what your credentials are but you have not presented yourself in very good light. _________________ 1997 K1100LT

I've been some time doing some research on this, through a couple of independent BMW specialists.
OK here's what I have.
The K1100 / K100 frames are identical with the exception of additional bracing to the K1100 headstock.
All other cycle parts are the same, and interchangeable between the two.
The only difference between the later K1100LT / RS, was the lifting handle which was carried over from the K100.
Otherwise they are the same.
Interestingly, the K100RS also had the lifting handle in some markets.
If anyone here knows better, please explain the other fundamental differences between the two frames apart from the lifting handle, which in itself is nothing to do with geometry and wheelbase.
Look forward to that. |

Check the specs on the bikes - there might be some useful information at this site:

Of course, at the low prices some of these bikes sell for now, you could just sell the Tupperware you already have, and buy an RS. _________________ Jim
