Hi, I need to order a front master cylinder kit for my '93 RS. The bike also needs the master cylinder brake hose replaced. Any recommended parts sources around?
Thanks for the help.

Haven't bought parts in a while but the code PROMO15 might get you 15% off at Countryside BMW.

Good deal on brake lines:

Oops, I just noticed in your sig that you have a 93. Despite what the listing says those Galfer lines are ABS II and won't work on a 93.

Thanks, I caught that. Parts are on order. Beemerboneyard had the front master cylinder kit too.

Bike had to be parked in the garage a few months but is now getting back in order. I did start and idle it a few times while dormant. Gave the battery a full slow charge overnight.

Today I pulled the gas tank and emptied same filling it with fresh gasoline. Bike was a little finicky at first but fired up at about the fourth try. After a minute or so it was idling perfectly.

And then came the oil burn-off smoke. Since it was daytime and didn't want the neighbors to get too alarmed, I held off until nightfall to run it several more minutes.

Brake parts to arrive next week and am looking forward to getting the beast back on the road.

Have been riding RS's for about 12 years now and being in my early 60's myself, I don't have the comfort zone doing so like I used to. The bike does have bar-backs installed.

I've been getting an itch for a '90's LT. Any good years to look for or bad years to avoid?

I replaced the flexible OE hoses on my K1100LT with stainless steel braided aftermarket ones and the difference has to be felt to be believed.

Even with new OE hoses there was a bit of 'sponginess' but with the braided hoses even after a very quick bleed sequence the brake was improved far beyond the original.

I like my 93. The ABS I works better than the ABS II on my 94 RS. (Less "false positives.") It's also easier to do spline lubes on the ABS I bikes.

The only LTs I'd avoid are the ones from the last production run, I think in 96. There's a few of them that came with few of the options, like a radio and heated grips. I think BMW was just clearing out parts inventory at that point.

Yea, what Duck said...
My '97 was a stripped down basic bike.... no heated grips, no radio, and the side cases were extra for the original purchaser and black.

My '95 on the other hand came fully loaded. Radio, heated grips and color matched cases.

Thanks for the LT comments, but back on this master cylinder brake thing here....

I installed the new brake hose and two seals on the M/C piston and put same all back together. I was finishing up bleeding the brakes when I noticed a pinhole leak started inside the brake fluid reservoir in the metal housing.
After I emptied most of the fluid out of the M/C reservoir and
when the brake lever is pumped, brake fluid squirts out of the pinhole. The hole is inside the circular dimple. See pic....

I'm thinking this is not a good sign and shouldn't be squirting anything. Can this be epoxied or use JB Weld? Or am I screwed?
Thanks for your thoughts.

Just thinking, is that the fluid return? When you release the brakes fluid has to flow back to the reservoir somehow. I know when you pimp the brakes with the cover off, brake fluid squirts up.

Think that would be counter-productive to a normally closed hydraulic system.

Edit to add: The pinhole sprays when the lever is pulled in, not when it's released.

If I remember correctly, that is the fluid return... JB Weld that and you'll be buying a new master cylinder...

I stand corrected. Strange, though to me, that by sending fluid back into the reservoir when the lever is pulled that it would lesson the hydraulic effect on the disc brakes. I dunno.

Every master cylinder (front and rear) always has two holes between the reservoir and the piston bore. The larger one ends up between the piston seals when the piston is in the resting position. The smallest one ends up in front of the seal that is most rearward in the bore with the piston in its resting position. Block any one of them and the braking will fail to work.
