G'day,
I have just finished carrying out the 160,000klm (100,000 mile) service on my 1997 K1100RS. I have found a very tiny crack in the exhaust header just before it enters the muffler. I was told that this is a common fault and I have to replace the whole exhaust system. It is quite an expensive item, Are there any alternatives? Any aftermarket ones? Any suggestions please. I was told that welding isn't an option.

HELP

Cheers
Frank

Frank, oh Frank, oh Frank.
I'll have to send Dazza round with a lump of 4 x 2 to educate you!
You've been spending too long at the "Maltese speed limit" and now you've broken your toy!
Which wanker told you that you had to replace the whole exhaust system? Not the Ringwood boys?
Just get it welded up. Have a chat to Al about this (but be prepared for the bagpipe music).
Or find another exhaust system, either aftermarket or genuine.
I fitted a Remus to mine so the cage drivers could actually hear that I was about in traffic.
Occasionally a Remus or Staintune exhaust appear in the classifieds.
Or you could hunt around for someone who has a genuine system hanging up in their garage gathering dust.
And then explain to the Yanks what the hell I am talking about here!
(Frank is the OzBeemers "Pet". He's a bit slow and has a Murray Valley irrigation pump, so we take pity on him and occasionally throw him scraps of mouldy bread and such like at the OzBeemers clubhouse).

I gather than aftermarket ones are cheaper? Does one buy a complete set?

Love too but I haven't got the foggiest idea who Pegasus is?? LOL

Pegasus = Andrew

Winged Horse is very appropriate at the moment with my busted arm/shoulder!

Aftermarket exhaust is complete set of headers and tailpipe.

If you weren't so far away down in Mexico I could lend you a set of stock pipes. The aftermarket pipes don't use the rubber mount (the one that looks like a car electric fuel pump mount)
