Can you imagine BMW producing a bike that throws too much heat onto the rider?

Good morning John et al….
That "3 cyl" BMW concept bike would IMO be unbelievably warm on the nether regions, I agree.. All of the V-Twins I have owned in my riding life have also been warm (hot) to ride. However there seems to be something excessive about the "K series seat-heat" issue that we all on this forum ( except me ) seem to agree.. that K bikes ride hot due to engine heat blowback right ?
In my case however, I have no reflective foil or insulation or special ducting under my std OEM K1100LT seat and yet in summer I experience none of the extreme discomfort described by others… As yet I can't explain it ! I will replace this seat soon, but as yet have found no alternative that I like ! Now I'm wondering if I should ??
Sure would be fun to ride that W-3 flat out… especially on something like the Salt Flats !!

Ernie, in my case it's not the bottom of the seat that gets hot, but rather the gas tank and the insides of my legs are what "takes the heat".... _________________ Ride safe.

I agree with Scott.
Inside of my knees get really warm, especially after an hour or so in hot weather as the fuel tank empties. Nothing better than a refill with some relatively cool gasoline or sticking my knees out into the breeze.
I made a mistake in riding gear a couple of years ago.
On a very hot day our son and I went on a 4 hour ride to get some pizza in Burlington Vt. We took some fun back roads- he hates highway drones on his Supersport. We also went over the "App Gap". Fun ride but.......
I wore some armored mesh pants and by the end of the day I had a very red and painful left shin. Lesson learned. _________________ John & Cathy

Yes, John. When my K bike and I were still getting to know each other I rode from home to the beach in shorts. I don't believe in riding in shorts at all, but it was a super hot day, blah, blah, blah.
45 minute ride and I had very noticeable and painful red burn on my left shin and calf when I got to the beach. Put my jeans back on for the ride home!

Heat on mine has never been unbearable, but always there.
I've replaced a heat sensor on top of the radiator, and since then. my fan comes on at the middle of temp gauge range. It used to get near red before turning on.
Anxious to see what happens this summer. _________________ '93 K1100LT

Hi Bob..et al..
Bob's comment re the "fan ON point".. I never thought much about it, BUT my fan also comes on at just about the half way point on the scale. I always thought that the gage is so inaccurate that it didn't matter much what it read!..ie: either the fan came on before 'boil over' or if it didn't it was too late anyway… Being deaf I can't hear it, but it does seem like my fan is nearly always ON ! Might this be the reason I don't feel the heat like others ??

When riding in the heat of Mexico I actually burned my inner thighs. I taped a cut up mouse pad there to withstand it.
At least with the K1200GT its a plastic tank and cover....although the rest of the bike has questionable engineering. _________________ Mike Gullery

I used to have one of the original BMW cruisers, and it was a really good bike.
There were several theories discussed on the Chromeheads forum, as to why BMW did not develop the concept, but recently, BMW let the cat out of the bag in a UK magazine, by stating that the engine limited the bikes appeal to the cruiser set, due to a) the layout not allowing for a feet forward riding position, and b) the cylinders pointing the wrong way.
All crap of course, but this is the sort of idiotic mindset you're dealing with in the cruiser fraternity.
