G'day everyone

Been a fair while since I visited last.

Have problem with fuel pump. Went for a ride, run sweet. Got home, shut bike down with kill switch, side stand down. Tried to start, no fuel pump. Checked to make sure side stand was up. No power to fuel pump.

Had this happen before, turned out the fuel pump died.

Purchased a replacement pump, checked to see if it worked, yes. installed and still no fuel pump.

I have checked the wiring to kill switch, OK.

I am not getting any power to pump.

Help. please.

Have you checked the sidestand switch? It will cut the power to the fuel pump, brake light, most warning lamps in the instrument
(and starter...not all models).

Also check the 4-pin tank connector behind the rh side panel, check/clean the multi-pin plug on the engine controller. That one bit me once......

I keep a plug that I can use to bypass the side stand switch if I have a problem with it. I had to tweak the switch operating lever on my bike last month, it was operating the switch intermittently. Take a look at your side stand switch. If you get down on the floor with a light and operate the side stand while watching the switch you can see how the looped lever moves p and down to operate the metal switch arm on the switch. I was able to bend the lever just a bit which was all it needed. After that I would hold the turn on the ignition switch with the side stand down and then slowly raise it until I heard the fuel pump come on. With just a bit of tweaking I was able to get the switch to come on with about 4" of movement of the side stand. That left almost a foot of travel to raise the stand all the way up. I figured that would be give plenty of travel on the microswitch to make sure it would operate with travel to spare. Haven't had a hitch since then.
I would recommend either a piece of wire to short the two leads in the socket that's on the left side of the bike under the front end of the side cover, the end that goes forward just needs to be shorted in case the side stand switch fails. A loop of wire in your tool kit can do that for you in case of need.

Always good to have at hand......then you can fix the switch later, as it seem to have its own mind, and fail when..............

BMW part # 61 12 1 459 998.

+1 here too. I have had one fail after a ride in the rain, till it dried out.

I have also place a small piece of plastic hose over the metal "tang" that operates the micro switch, just to give it a little extra travel.

I have checked the side stand switch, all OK as it is showing the it works as it should.

Checking the +positive to fuel pump from plug, OK Brown wire on fuel pump, green on plug.
-neg black from fuel pump to plug - showing cont. to green on plug.

Hope this makes sense as I am completely confused. Sad

Anyone have a wiring diagram for this area as my BMW manual does not show this at all.

Cheers

Frank

Well, the +power from the fuel pump relay will be on the green wire, and the -ground will be on the brown wire.
The yellow and white wires are for the fuel level and low fuel indicators.
