As title, my rear brake disc is getting covered in a film of oil after about 100 miles. I assume it's the bevel box output seal. Is this a home DIY job? I'm reasonable competent but don't have access to specialist tools like presses or air guns etc.
If not DIY, can anyone recommend a cost effective repair shop in GB (pref south east)?
Thanks for any advice. _________________ '96 K1100rs

good link - thanks.
Is the input seal easy and worth doing at the same time as preventative maintenance or am I just asking for trouble? Thinking of getting a couple of the brake disc retaining screws to replace the ones that have to come out - anything else I should buy to do a proper job?
Thx again. _________________ '96 K1100rs

The input seal is a lot more tricky to change.
It sits a bit deep...inside a threaded ring, for better acces unscrew this ring, special tool needed.
And in front of this it's a big nut which is tightened with a rather high torque (200 Nm) and secured with Loctite........
when trying to undo this nut you gonna add words to your vocabulary
and you have to lock the FD gears/housing when unscrewing and mounting this nut.
If the seal don't leak, I would leave it alone. |

Great, thx again. Will just invest in the output seal for now and commit to a few hours of garage fun. Although, probably ought to invest in a new set of brake pads as sell, since mine have had a thorough soaking in 75/90.
