I am having a problem that is really getting to bug me, My speedo nor odometer do not work, I have checked all the connections i can find as has been suggested, The blinkers do auto cancel, but im not sure if they are time cancelled or distance off the speedo. Any ideas what could be causing hte speedo and Odometer to not work?? Thanks for any help.

Well, the signal auto cancel does not have a timer in it that I am aware of, so if they are auto cancelling, then it sounds like your speedo/odo issue is contained to the inst cluster internally.

I agree. When I was installing the cruise control, I found that interrupting or sharing the signal coming from the rear wheel sensor caused the speedometer to stop working and the turn signals would not self cancel.

You might want to look at the multipin plug behind the gauges for corrosion or a broken wire

Is there possibly a place between the sensor and the speedo that could have a bad contact?? I have had some plugs on things that one contact is good, but the one next to it is not a good contact.. Thanks for the input and any help

Behind the speedometer it's a three pin connector which is a well known problem source, this connector mount have been modified several times.
If you get a bad connection on this connector, the relay self cancelling will still function...but the odo and speedo will cut.
Have a look at this thread.

Hold anything that creates a strong magnetic field, near the rear wheel sensor. Leave it mounted and intact...just bring the magnetic field within a few inches. I use my transformer type soldering gun, but you can use one of those 'personal' vibrators, an old magnetic tape eraser (powerful type), etc.
It's possible to modify an old high intensity desk lamp transformer or a bell transformer for this purpose....remove the END flat lamination group.
As you bring the magnetic energy source close to the rear drive, key ON, the speedometer will jump to 45 mph if on 60Hz USA current. If you have a strong field, and no jumping, the sensor is OPEN (ohmmeter test required), or there is a problem with the connection, or in the pod. I have such devices, if you need one, and nothing to make one from. The speedometer and ODOMETER TOO, all run off that sensor, by an electronic count-down means. As for cancelling such as the turn signals, it is based on time AND movement of the tire. BTW...the odometer will also move, with the magnetic field nearby.

I'm shure all this info about checking the sensor and the wiring to the instrument would become useful to someone.

But in this case it's allready confirmed that the sensor functions and the signal reaches the instrument,
as long as the flasher relay self cancelling functions.

The open circuit to the speedo is internal in the instrument, and probably in the earlier mentioned connector
as this is a known problem source.

Note that the flasher self cancels based on movement, and TIME.

The flasher relay self canceling is based on the pulses from the speedometer sensor.

Up to 50 km/h it self cancels after a calculated distance of 210 meters.
When the pulse frequency is higher than a predetermined value that is equal
to 50 km/h a timer in the flasher relay starts and stops the relay after 10 seconds.

The speedometer died on my '95LT. After testing out the wiring and sensor I took the speedo off my '94LT and installed it on the '95. It worked proving the cluster unit was kaput. I did a bit of research and ended up sending it to Overseas Speedometer who repaired the cluster and returned it within ten days. It cost me $192 but was well worth it seeing as used units when available are more costly and this one only had 11,000 miles on it. I wanted to keep the original correctly reading unit on the bike. I returned the original unit into the '94 and reinstalled the repaired unit in the '95. I dearly hope I don't have to remove or replace a K1100LT speedometer again. Definitely a PIA although I'm a lot faster now that I've done it four or five times. I do recommend Overseas Speedometer for repairs, they specialize in European electronic speedos.
