Just realized that my vehicle insurance carrier (whom I've been with for over 30 years) doesn't provide roadside assistance for motorcycles. They do for my autos.

Any recommendations for roadside assistance other than changing providers?

Otherwise, I guess, its preventative maintenance, riding with necessities like extra clutch cable, etc. and out of pocket expenses when $#!T happens!

It couldn't hurt to get a recent quote from another carrier for your bike(s).

You could look at AAA, but from what I have read, you have to buy an RV plan in order to cover a motorcycle.

I have my bikes insured thru Progressive and Roadside Assistance is only about $12 year extra.

Thanks all,
I will consider Geico, AMA, or AAA.

I have had AAA RV membership for almost twenty years. I live in Illinois, currently in the western Chicago suburbs.
Most of my experience has been with automobile incidents and AAA comes through with flying colors; with cycles they are not so good.
One time I was in a city that was next to my home and the bike broke down, after an hour of calls, and promises and waiting I called a friend with a truck. This happened in the middle of a large city, 10am in the middle of the week in summer. IE there were no reasons to not get some help. I heard several excuses, even "we cannot find anyone that will haul a bike."
One time I used BMW roadside assistance from the same town for my new 2012 RT and it went like clockwork. no problems.

My twenty cents worth

Very Happy

Hi...
I use MTS ( Motorcycle Towing Services ) for more than 10 years now.
They are not cheapest at $80 plus per year, BUT they do what they
say they will do, and they do it promptly! I have only
had to use them twice far from home, and there was no problems
either time covering very large towing fees 100% !!

Best regards,, ride safe,,/. Ernie in NH

I have had AMA for a number of years. My son used it when he was at a summer internship - great service, no issues. Had to use it myself (for my boat trailer - a wheel bearing bit the dust) when AMA changed providers but had not informed the membership. Previous provider would not cover it and AMA was closed (a Sunday). I had to pay that one, but fortunately it wasn't a big deal. Oh well...

Don't qualify for AARP just yet. Will consider the other solutions posted Laughing
