Gidday Folks,
Is having a little trouble finding info on my bikes electrical output, does my 8th month 1993 K1100LT have the larger upgraded alternator, I remember reading somewhere that it was a 700? upgraded from the early models 400?, is this sort of right and what is the correct terminology..
Reason being I have tried since christmas two pairs of small LED cree driving lights and both times they have vibrated to bits on the inside and stop working, so I am going to try for now a pair of old reliable Hella 140 driving lights that I had up on the shelf, I also got the local auto electrician to add last year the upgraded Eastern Beaver relay while he wired in the driving lights correctly to the high/low switch and last night I installed a new Narva "120 plus" H4 globe
Just wanting to know my bikes electrical limit verses output as I am a novice at wiring and all I will be doing is solder the wires together.
Any info would be great! _________________ Cheers Grant

The 50A alternator was used from -93 year model, and have a black plastic rear cover.
The earlier 32A alternator did have a alu rear cover. |

93 and earlier model year K1100LTs have 32A alternators. All K1100RS bikes have a 50A alternator.
However, unless you're running incredibly inefficient or incredibly powerful LEDs, which alternator you have should not matter. Even a 32A alternator should be able to easily power any aux lights up to 35W each. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

According to my ETK (and various online part manuals) the 50A alternator was used on the LT from 09/92.....ie -93 year model and on. |

The VIN on my 93 LT ends in 0300789 - which translates to a production date of 10/92. Regardless of what the ETK indicates, it came with a 32A wiring harness and alternator.
I've owned two 93 K1100RS bikes, both of which had a 50A wiring harness and alternator. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Gidday Folks,
The Vin Number on mine ends in 0185103 which shows up as a 8th month 1993 bike and looking closely at it last night after doing a little more reading I have the black plastic cover attached and not the metal, so it is the 50A Yeh!!
Thanks for the input and fact finding, much appreciated _________________ Cheers Grant

My VIN is 0300858 which decodes to a 12/1992 build. I have the black cap on the alternator, and with the side cover removed I can read 50amp on it. Considering that the bike is so low miles, and other than battery replacement I don't think any work has been done on it.
I know from other German manufacturers that build date/options and such have some wiggle room because the US/ROW production.
