The Kisan costs about $30 more, but you don't have to take the wiring apart and redo it, just plug the Signalmimder in and you are ready to go. You also get three different turn signal cancel time interval settings as well as running lights and flashers. There is also a molex connector to add additional LEDs. Much less work and more bang for the buck IMHO.

New feature now...flashing brake light functionality, cool!

Note that if you have the AudioVox Cruise control that this MIGHT cause issues. In addition to sensing when the brake light goes on to disaengage the cruise control, the AudioVox also puts a reverse low voltage current through the rear light bulb to test the filament. If your brake light bulb is out then the cruise control won't work.

Since I don't know how the Kisan works to flash your brake (which IS a cool feature) I can't tell if this would putz up cruise control operation or not. Just something to ponder before buying one of these.

Something interesting happened with my bike. As I've said, the hazards have never worked. I've seen info online that claims that they are not wired from the factory, which I thought was stupid, but took at face value since it explained why mine didn't work.

After hearing here that they ARE wired stock I verified that my switch is in fact wired. But still no workie.

So I'm in the carport getting ready for a ride yesterday doing a pre flight check. Tire pressure, oil level, etc. I also installed a replacement fuel gauge which has completely solved the massive swing my gauge had developed between 1/4 and 3/4 of a tank. It's 'glass' also wasn't heavily cracked from heavy handed cleaning...

So I turn the power on to check functionality of the gauge and it dawns on me... There's a relay clicking. Sure enough, the hazards were flashing. But not consistently. They'd flash a bit, then stop, then flash more.

So I reached under and wiggled the wires and they stopped. It was very hard to get them to work again and they'd never work long. Seems pretty clear that I just need to resolder some stuff. I'll be doing that shortly as well as dropping in an Osram Nightbreaker bulb I picked up a while back that I've been too lazy to install.

It's seems lame to feel excited about hazards that work since, while I use them more than the average person since I do occasional escorts, but they still don't get used much. But I am.

I do wonder why they passed factory inspection way back then, though.

that kinda unit is too nice for the bugeye motoheap... but the unnamed midwest motobrick needs running lights and a brake flasher...

thats a deal if it does all that just by plug and play and flipping some dip switches...

i see they have the unit fitment for the l t... it says sm-6... k bike 15 pin connector...

is this the same unit for the r s... or is it the sm-5... 12 pin connector...

thanks...

The K had run-n-lites installed when I got it - both front signal housings were melted and deformed from the heat - I replaced them. The rear lenses were also deformed - replaced those. I installed light buddies in the rear.

Update on my non-operational hazard lights.

I removed the handlebar cover and resoldered the wires to the switch. This was not easy in the least as the wiring has virtually NO slack. One solder joint is good, the other... definitely not something I'd turn in to my school electronics teacher... Laughing

Reassemble... no workie. Grrr. Not really looking forward to removing the tank and paying $40 for a replacement, I stopped by a store for a can of WD-40 tonite. Spritz, spritz, spritz...

It started working sporadically, mostly ok. A few more spritzes and it's working fine. Seems the switches contacts have just been dirty all along. While I was at it, I doused the grip and ABS switches. Both work ok, but hey, it IS 12 years old. I noticed that while the ABS switch works fine, it doesn't spring back hardly at all for a momentary switch. Probably a weak spring, but it isn't affecting the functionality, so I'm not going to bother replacing it for now.

One of the first things i had to do on the LT was strip and clean all the switches (had to do it to the RS too), grips didnt work at all, ABS cancel was tempremental and the hazzard was full of corrosion, seems a weak point on K's but easy to do when you get them off.

I just want to let you all know how much I appreciate this group.

I'm a klutz with large hands and extremely little mechanical ability.

This morning I had my seat, tank, and handle bar cover off. I had the back off the abs and grip heater switches. The hazard switch was completely unassembled: cover, back, spring, copper dome thing and two or three other plastic parts and the switch housing. The two wires soldered to the back of the switch were off.

When I took off the front of the hazard switch a spring flew out and into the abyss between the left fairing and fuel tank. Immediately I knew taking off the front was a mistake. Fortunately, after I removed the fuel tank, I was able to find the spring.

Thank you Flying Duck for selling me the slightly used handle bar cover. The one I replaced was hacked up by a PO.

With some trial and error, I got the hazard switch assembled to what I believed would work. I used a 9v battery and a tester to make sure it was ok based on stuff I read here. Really it took me almost 45 minutes to figure out how to use the tester.

I have never soldered anything ever. Radio Shack provided me with a "starter" soldering kit. I watched 3 or 4 youtube vids on soldering. Some how I was able to solder the two wires to the back of the switch. Miracle of miracles, I did not burn my self, or anything else.

I had to lower the handle bars a little to get the cover on correctly. Everything else went back together kinda easy.

This evening I took my first ride of 2014, AND the hazards work just as they should, and don't work when they should not!
