Gidday Folks
Ok so over the weekend I bit the bullet and ordered/bought my stash of WS2 (tungsten disulfide) from off the site that a few of you have suggested in the product review section http://lowerfriction.com/product-page.php?categoryID=1 it should arrived here in Oz in a week or two.
Just wondering if any of you people can give me the lastest updates with your findings after using it for a while in your bikes.
Many thanks for any info you post...
BTW here is a pic of my K1100 taken on Saturday, sitting on top of the world up in the Australian High Country at Mount Hotham in Victoria, I rode a 1000km loop, lots of excellent twisty roads with no traffic and the ole K went like a stream train.. Loved It
And a coffee break in the main street of Mansfield at 7.30pm Friday night, then we went up and through the Tolmie Way to Whitfield in the dark, yes to bloody many crazy kangaroos up there and then we shot up the King valley and zig zagged across to Beechworth for a late pizza and a few beers.
btw my mate Steve has a very lovely black 1981 R100rs JPS

Sorry it took so long to get here.
I have been using it for abut 2-3 years now. I started off with moly and then went to WS2.
Here is a link to a thread I wrote. If you have any questions ask away.

A couple of my stubbie coolers are a bit hard to get beers in and out of, I wonder if that would help with those? _________________ K1100RS '97

Good Morning Grant...
Ive been offline for a while and just read your query... I see that RAL has answered, so I'll give you my experiences with WS2..
Years ago I was Chief Engineer for a company in Germany that produced engine seals. One of my duties other than designing sealing solutions, was to oversee a test lab where we did "whole engine" and/or "whole transmission" life testing... Of course we also experimented with all of the manufactures so-called OEM-Fills, and various additive blends, and also specific custom lube packages... We used Molly ( MOS2) and also WS2 purchased in Canada.. I found that the entrained Moly would eventually agglomerate ( clump and stick in places along the lube route where the fluid velocity was slow ) whereas the WS2, except when standing, always remained entrained thus enhancing the shear properties of the lubricant ( engine oil or transmission fluid ). We noted significant increases in the efficiency of fuel useage when using both MOS2 and WS2, BUT more so with the WS2. I did find in very hard to incorporate the WS2 material into the lube packages however, and eventually used a food blender, some mineral oil, to form a paste that could be metered.
When RAL was at the HMSP-3 I believe, he mentioned his intent to use WS2, and that renewed my interest as well, so I got a portion of what he had purchased. I introduced the WS2 to both my K1100 engine and transmission wth great results... mileage went up to between 52 and 54 mpg, and the sticky transmission stuck no more. Something did however happen to the gear-position indicator after that and I have yet to figure out what. Despite that, I continue to use the WS2 and honestly believe my engine at least, will last forever !! Good luck with yours !!

The engine will last forever as long as it has lube and proper maintenance and warm ups.
Now couldn't it clog the oil filter? _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.

If you use it in the engine it won't clog it. The nice thing about WS2 is it is so slippery that it won't stick to itself so you only get one layer on the surfaces. Unlike moly where it can build up on itself. The build up of moly doesn't matter in the gear box or FD but does in the engine.
I have WS2 in my engine now. However I did find that because it is much denser than moly it settles faster in the bottom of the oil pan and takes longer to get picked up. They make a nano version of WS2 which is what I think I may try. It would go into suspension easier and stay in suspension longer. _________________ Rich

Is it really small enough that it won't be filtered by the oil filter? Then why the oil manufacturers don't add some in their product?
If it's so good, would a coating provide dry lube and then no oil would be necessary? _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.

Yes it is small enough to not be filtered out my the oil filter. If you search on line you will find that it is used both dry and in other media as a lubricant. It is also more expensive than moly. _________________ Rich

Fair enough, though I really don't think the engine needs that, doesn't even need synth oil, they don't wear out, the valves are kind of the "weak point" though they can last several 100K miles.
Trans and rear drive why not. _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.
