Hi, My name is Mike George and I live in North East Ohio. I joined K11OG back in May and posted once. I've been a lurking through the group pages since and have decided to come out of the shadows this evening.
I purchased my 1996 K1100 LT about 10 months ago. It's kind-of sort-of my first bike. I had a '69 honda 450 (black bomber) over 30 years ago and owned it for only a few years. Honestly, the K had me intimidated for a few months; (large size, top heavy, 100 HP). Now I'm loving every minute I get to ride it!
I think I'm a typical BMW rider, it's not a weekend thing for me; this is a work bike. My work commute is 54 miles round trip and I try to ride often. Since I have small children, my weekends are full of family activities and the K sits in the garage.
Ok; here is me and the K. Ride your bike to work day. I work at the Number 1 Motorcycle Insurer in the US, Progressive Insurance:
This was my first ever commute to work:
This is my K sans the bags:

Thanks Carp and John & Cathy! I have done a bunch of reading in several forums; and all the folks here seem real nice and willing to help! I've had several questions about the bike already; shifting/fuel capacity/used parts to name a few; the answers have been easy to find helpful and plentiful!

Mike,
BeemerBoneyard should be your first stop for K bike maintenance parts. Good folks to deal with.
MaxBMW is good also- use their fiche for reference only or order from them. The guy at Max New Hampshire is Rusty Gill. He KNOWS K bikes- right off the top of his head, no reference needed.
Stay in touch.
