|
|
I have a 94 K1100RS that needs more lighting. I was told NOT to
put a 80/100 w bulb in my k1100. What kind of LED lights have other
members used. Where I live there is a Depressed deer behind every tree.
I need to put a lot more light in front for night time riding.
Thanks
PS all that I could fine on the net was Ground effect lights for V twins |

I run an 80/100 in my LT. You need to get a relay harness from Eastern Beaver to run the hotter bulb. It will actually put out more light with a std bulb and save your switch at the same time.
Can't offer up anything on the LEDs as I just run aux lights with H4 bulbs.

Up-date I contacted Jim @ Eastern Beaver and worked out what kind
of harness I needed and Ordered it. I will now be able to keep all of
the Depressed deer at bay.
Thanks Bob D |

You wont be sorry. Before install, pop the relays out and hit them with some dielectric grease. Mine are starting to show some corrosion after 3 years of riding year round in NE Ohio. _________________ 1993 K1100LT

+1 on the Eastern Beaver relay kit for the headlight.
Easy to install and it does give you a brighter headlight with the standard bulb.
Cheers,
Merle |

Bob - the other thing you can do to get more light on the road is replace the stock bulb with a Sylvania SilverStar or UltraStar - the bulbs are made in the Fatherland - the K bikes like them. That and the relay will help a lot _________________ Jim

what you need to look at is the LUMES or the output in candle power.
most LED's are rated in WATTS as in power consumed. NOT OUTPUT.
i have 2 flashlites ( that torches for the Brits amoung us) both are LED's
one is a 1 watt the other is 5 watt. candle power is 80 and 180 .
i work at an airport and i am seeing more aircraft with the LED's in the critical areas of the plane; taxi lights, position lamps, marker becons.. they are very bright and they are powered by the 24 volt systems. the military in the sandbox is putting them on the ground vehicles and they are holding up well to reports from the manufacturer.
hope this helps go after output and you will not have mod the bike to filiment bulds... and BTW the LED's will be replacing the incandesent bulbs in vechiles with in the next 5 years.. _________________ fix the problem not the blame ; fix what is messed up ; NO one is to blame. |

I've done side by side comparisons of many H4 options and the one that really shines (pun intended) is the Osram 60/55 if you want to stay with the OEM headlight wiring.
If you add headlight relays and beefed up wiring then a cheapo 130/90 Xenon from eBay puts enough light on the road on high beam to be comfortable doing 80+ at night. (Depending upon how good your night vision is.)
LED lumen output ratings are not reliable as there's six ways from Sunday to measure that and vendors often lie. However, in general. anything that consumes 10 or more watts per light will put out something conspicuous. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
