i have been working on installing an aftermarket speedometer which is an Acewell unit. i also built RBM's circuit board http://www.motobrick.com/index.php/topic,1452.msg20543.html#msg20543 to give me a gear position indicator and the ability to start in neutral. i have the speedo all hooked up and its working fine, but installing the gear indicator has been a problem. i thought there was an issue with the circuit board, but after getting testing help from RBM, the circuit is working as it should. it turns out that there is some issue with the TGPI which was working fine with the oem speedometer and i have not driven in the rain since installing the new speedo. i tested the leads conductivity(at both the instrument wiring harness and the connection on the right side of the tank for the TGPI switch) in neutral and in first and second and the wires are not conducting way they should. im getting no conductivity in neutral, when in 1st gear its like im in 3rd and 2nd i guess it would be 6th if the bike had 6th(the LED display shows 6 when in 2nd)
considering the TGPI switch was working before removing the removal of the OEM cluster, is there a chance there is some other issue? looking at the wiring diagram for the bike i see no other connections between the switch and the wiring harness at the cluster. could i have shorted the wire or blown up the tgpi? seems too robust for that. _________________ 1996 k1100rs "ninja turtle bike" |

thanks, i already read that page, that is how i was able to test the circuit to see if it was working. im about tempted to reconnect the OEM cluster to see if the gear indicator works on it. _________________ 1996 k1100rs "ninja turtle bike" |

I'm thinking that's probably the only way to really know if it is actually the new display or not........or the switch..... _________________ Ride safe.

you might be right. im just mystified by the whole thing and i was hoping that someone else has has run into a problem with the GPI that did not deal with moisture. _________________ 1996 k1100rs "ninja turtle bike" |
