Sad Sad Sad

Hello all "K-bike" electrical gurus....

Last week I was away on a personal trip to the Canadian Maritimes and more than once noticed, either a failure to crank, or erratic cranking, or startup-check pauses.... when returning to the bike for 'take off'. I discovered after a bit, that just touching the lever of of the 'kill switch' either right or left from the upright center position, would cause the bike to quit. From that I'm guessing that the kill switch ( not the starter button switch ) is perhaps about to die... Is this repairable and/or easily replaceable ??

Best regards all..........// Ernie in NH

Ernie - do you use your kill switch on a regular basis? Or do you use the key?

The switch could be going bad - or it could have really dirty contacts if you don't use it all the time. If I remember correctly, someone posted about taking the switch apart and cleaning it.

Good morning Jim !!

First.... What a terrific feat by Gwen eh ??? Just terrific !!

Second..... I probably use the key more than the K-switch as you suggest, so what you say is most probable, however I did a "K11OG search" using the two words "kill switch" in both slots provided and came up empty. I cant believe that there has never been a post or a topic using "kill switch".... am I using the search facility correctly or is the switch described by another name ?

Third..... Seems to be too tight to get any contact cleaner under/between there, so looks like disassembly is in my near future eh? From doing "switch work" on my Airhead I know these switches can be very delicate...clymer has nothing about them that I can see other than describing the function. So, with your thought being the same as mine..I'm going to dive into that side of the handlebar !

Thanks and ride safe.......// Ernie in N H

Ernie, maybe in the short term just try and cycle the switch more often. This can sometimes "self-clean" while the contacts are wiping against each other.

Not a guaranteed fix, but it's a start that has worked for some.

Hi Scott...

OK... I'm convinced ( and lazy ) !! Before diving in, I will go through a few days of "switch using" to see if there may be crud on the contacts... !

Thanks for the suggestion... and in the meantime, lets hope that Gwen's gps in Labusch can be found...( man that REALLY frosts my onions !! )

Best regards as always, ride safe......// Ernie in NH
