There is a small built in light sensor on my K1100LT fairing near the right side mirror. Can anyone tell me what this is for? Thx _________________ Pirsig lives! |

It could be a couple of things.
1. could be a light sensor for a headlamp modulator.
2. could be some kind of a indicator for an alarm system.
3. could be an indicator for an on-board battery tender of some kind.
Have you traced the wires anywhere? _________________ Ride safe.

Thank you ...I have not figured out how to upload pictures which would help I'm sure...
I was thinking it might regulate the instrument lighting to come on at dusk
I'll ask around at my BMW shop. Having a great time with my "new" K1100LT...previously I rode a Harley Superglide...and most recently I just restored a 1982 Yamaha SECA 550. This is my firs BMW motorcycle and I like the extreme technology in this machine for its time. _________________ Pirsig lives! |

I'll just about guarantee you that it's not BMW issued, and if you have a BMW shop that actually knows anything about the "K" series bike you are in a minority.
A lot of mechanics that actually knew about and worked on the older K bikes have retired or moved on to open their own shops. _________________ Ride safe.
