Just bought my 1996 K1100LT.

I re-installed the stock radio and think I got it mostly right. Does anyone have a copy of the original instructions?

Also, I don't quite know where to run the cable for the Top Case speakers. It looks like there should be a mount of some kind for the cable when not in use, but I can't seem to figure out where that would be. Any ideas?

Also at the rear of the bike on the bottom side of the top box rack there should be a mounted "cap" that the radio loom will attach to when the top box is removed.

Cable runs on the left side of the bike to match the topbox (case) socket.

Gidday,

I actually removed mine when I got the bike last month, well the radio was not working and just sitting in the cradle so out it came, taped and rolled up the wires, and cable tied them up behind the dash.
They are rather an old heavy looking unit and I am not one for music while I ride anyway, I'm a little different and like to listen to the motor ticking along to its own funky rhythm, so now I have two compartments to store a few goodies...

Cheers
Grant

BTW does anyone have a spare right hand side compartment lid, is missing one, just asking and putting it out there

Thanks for all the replies.

Can understand the "no music"view. I like trying to get to original condition. Might not listen to the radio anyway.

Ran the cable down the left side. Anyone have a picture of where the cable cap is in the rack and what it looks like?

Looking at the rear of the bike, just above the tail/brake light assy it's attached to one of the rear rack brackets.

I can take a pic tomorrow in the daylight if no one else posts one up.

Yep thats me to, not selling the radio, is in storage all cleaned and wrapped up waiting for the day when i may sell the bike.
But for now the empty compartment makes for great storage or a water bottle while i am riding...

Here's a shot of the "keeper cap" at the rear of the bike.

Hi all, it's been a while.
I thought I would resurrect this thread since it's new and not create a new one.
Anyway, my radio use to work but after removing the fairing for throttle sync it has not worked. The red "ML" light comes on on the radio but no display. the fuse was blown, I replaced but no luck. Also the seek and volume controls on the handlebar never worked from the beginning. I removed the radio and thought I would check here for answers.
Also what is the black button next to the cigarette lighter. is it fader control for back to rear?

I know this is not much to go on so if you need more info let me know. i will just let you know that I am electrically challenged though.

Thanks
Brian

Basically the radio needs a 4 digit code entered, Should be in your documentation. The "button" is indeed Front rear fader. As for the bar controls, N F Idea, never had a faulty one, sorry.

As far as the bar controls go, once the radio is working you have to press the on/off/vol knob on the face of the radio to enable the bar controls. Once the bar controls are active the red LED next to the bar "vol" button will light up.
When the bar controls are active the radio volume knob is de-activated. You can't use both at the same time.
You can use the station pre-select buttons for saved stations.

Regarding the handlebar controls, they plug in to the rear/bottom of the radio via an 8 pin DIN connector. You might want to check that.
You can pull the radio out by inserting something like a small screwdriver or a nail into the small holes in the radio mounting bracket and releasing the little catches, the lift it out.
If the fuse blew, there's a good chance you have some wonky wiring to sort out.
I pulled all of my radio and associated wiring harness out, so if you need to know what wires go where let me know.

Good luck!

Bill

Thanks guys,
Tim, If I understand correctly, does the red light mean I have power and just enter the 4 digit code (the screen is blank at this point). I thought there would be something on the screen, like a message to enter a code.
Scott, thanks I did not know that, if I get it working I will try that out and see if it works for me,
Bill, that would be great i would love to know where the wires go. I have the diagram but it's not for the electrically challenged.

Brian - TM seems to have a dearth of information on their website, but this page turns up in a search. http://throttlemeister.com/app/inventoryapp/suzuki/pdf/282.html

I know it's not for a BMW - but they must be at least close to the same.

Well, that depends on which red light you are talking about.... Turn the power on and enter the 4 digit code, if the code is correct the display will indicate the station and it will come to life.
If you are in a dark or dimly lit area, you should see the back-lighting of the radio light up when you turn it on too.

I have the radio manual and install instructions in .pdf file format, I can send them to you if you would like. The forum format here doesn't allow for file hosting, so I can't just post them up.

Mine had the same problem when I first bought it.
You need to loosen the screws that hold the throttle assembly in place and slide it towards the Throttlemeister a little bit. Make sure the Throttlemeister is in its "Off" position.
Basically the Throttlemeister just pinches the throttle grip tube against the throttle assembly (where the starter button/kill switch are). So you just need to tweak the adjustment until you get it right.
Make sure you remember to re-tighten the throttle assembly clamps, otherwise the TM will never bind that grip tube.
