It's time to replace my front brake pads on my K1100LT and am fed up with getting soaked by BMW.
I have the chance to order SBS or EBC pads.
Can anyone offer their preferences or feedback?
Please and thanks.

Wow!
Scott, they're almost free.
How do you feel they perform?
I assume they're Chinese made. Never been a big fan of cheap Chinese stuff and have a rule of thumb that I use: 'when you go shopping, do you always buy the cheapest thing you find?'
On the other hand, if the performance is there, why not?
After all, I don't think that the pads BMW uses perform any better than good, aftermarkets.

beware than many aftermarket pads will wear the rotors significantly. _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.

They perform good, even in the wet. I like to have as much braking power as I can get. The best way to survive an accident is to avoid it in the first place.
Yes, anything semi-metalic, or with metal flake it, will wear the rotors faster. In addition to the extra stopping ability the extra metal material will help with heat dissipation too.
Like a lot of parts/pieces for the K-bikes, there are now some decent priced aftermarket rotors available when the time comes that they need to be replaced.
Personally I consider the brake rotor like the pads and tires, a consumable component that will wear out and need to be replaced at some point and time. _________________ Ride safe.

Thanks for the tip and your opinion, Scott.
I decided to drop the hammer and give them a try.
If, for some reason I find I don't like them, I'm not out much.
The amount of riding I do nowadays, the rotors will still last me a few incarnations.
If they work out, I owe you a beer.

I'm on my second set of EBC HH pads - still with the original rotors. The brakes on the K bike are now better than on the 1200GSA (Ferodo Platinum pads) - they really do haul the bike to a stop quickly. _________________ 1980 CB900FA

Maybe it is a better economy to pay less for pads and change rotors more often... Though you can buy genuine BMW pads with 15% off from Discount Codes: Countryside BMW (IL).
I have recently switched to an early K1200LT front wheel with semi-floating disks the same size as the K1100 (hence no fork modifications is required) so I'd rather not wear the disks, this size is quite rare and I don't know if I can find good aftermarket disks. _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.

Hi all...
I took the "tip from Scott", bought and installed those pads, and have yet to have any form of problem or see any significant 'rotor wear'..

Gidday,
I just brought front and back pads from "Metal Gear" in Oz http://www.metalgear.com.au/
They should be here soon and cost me $35 per set x 3 through a local bike dealer.
Never had them before, anyone here used them? like to comment?
I like to keep it local and support local business but that Chinese price is rather tasty indeed.. _________________ Cheers Grant

I just received a set of pads (three pairs) that I ordered with Scott's recommendation.
They look great. Took about ten days to get here (Canada) from Hong Kong and only cost CDN$40 SHIPPED.
Great deal. Great hands-on service from the seller.
Cancel your order and buy these. |

Quite a few of the Lav guys are running Metalgear pads and disks, no problems so far and they seem to work well. Probably all made in China anyway but isn't everything?? _________________ K1100RS '97

To late, being the nice guy that I am I paid for them over the counter when I ordered them.
Not to worry, next time I shall look into it a little more _________________ Cheers Grant

Would agree with that Drikko about China and its good to hear about the metal gear info, many thanks for the reassurance of my purchase using this brand of brake pads. _________________ Cheers Grant

You might also want to consider DP's. I use them on the front of my VFR and now on the K. Definately better than the stockers - quicker initial bite and progressive feel the more you squeeze. Sorry, can't comment on the SPS or EBC, but I hear they are also very good. _________________ 93 K1100RS (2up)
