I had hoped to stay off this forum for a while but my K11 1992 has developed an annoying intermittent problem. The rear wheel seems to lock up after shifting into neutral and parking up. I therefore cannot move the bike back. I thought at first sticking brakes but I placed the bike on the main stand and turning the engine on watched the rear wheel spin away tru 1st ,2nd 3rd 4th and 5th.
As i say its intermittent and may not perform the same trick tomorrow morning. The real problem is that the bike lives in a shed on an incline
and has to 'reverse' .
Any donations gratefully accepted. _________________ slyderx

Sounds like sticking brakes, and are you sure it's the rear wheel? Could be failure of a master cylinder, sticking brake calliper, or a collapsed brake hose. I've had, on one occasion, two of the three at once - sticking callipers and a collapsed hose on the front. _________________ '93 K1100RS

thanks il re-examine the bike again. at the moment its moving freely and yes im sure its the back wheel. it occurs when the bike is being placed in neutral _________________ slyderx

When (if) it next locks up, see how much movement there is at the rear wheel. If there's absolutely none, it's probably brakes or possibly (but highly unlikely) the final drive. If there's a tiny bit of movement, it may be the driveshaft is binding. If there's about an inch or so of rotational play, you're probably still in gear. _________________ '93 K1100RS

thanks dave....the last time it locked ..i placed it on the main stand. no movement. i then turned on the engine and tried it in first wheel rotated and so on with the other gears...going back to 'neutral ' not a budge but the second time i tried it then it freed up. i am in total denial about final drive or maybe id just prefer if the brakes were the solution. _________________ slyderx
