Hello there!

Because The Brick is going to stay with me longer, I have decided to clean up the bend faring.
Whole faring is bend in a strange way. If you at it, it looks like moved to left side. When you sit on the bike right knee touches the fairing first. Left side panel have a huge gap under the tank.
I don't know how to find a reference points for measurements and how to center the central bracket. Looking forward for any piece of advice.

Best regards

Sounds like you need to replace the main fairing mount bracket that bolts to the steering head.
I just replaced mine on the '97 last month. About $250US from BMW.
Not saying that yours will be that expensive as yours is an RS, but it most likely wont be cheap.

You can find used one, or have your straighten.

I had considered that route, but no guarentees a used one would be straight, nor did I have any "true" reference for getting the bracket straight where it was bent and broke.

Firstly you have to find out if YOU can realign the fairing up before buying another one.
The fairing is bolted together with 6mm bolts in about 8mm inside diameter size holes on the bracket itself.
Strip every inside plastic panels away from the fairng to the tank & fairing backet like you are putting it together for the first time.
The hole fairing should be only held together with frame to steering head-fairing to bracket than your ajustments are up to your judgement standing away at rear & front loosing/tightening those 4 bolts only.
You have to do this anyway even if you buy a new one.
For future reference if you ever have to buy a bracket. Get a jig made to straighten it in the future. A service for any body with my jigs for people in the club in Australia for K100 & K1100's.
I have done a few. Hope that helps. Your time is your money.

Hi there!

I can't understand what you mean by "a jig" - English is not my naive language Smile and a dictionary gives crappy answers.

As far as I can understand the first part, the procedure looks like it:
- straight the main bracket and main fairing,
- then add parts toward back and verify if all is straight and symmetric.
- tighten all mounting bolts in the end.
Is it right?

Best regards,

Quote:
In metalworking and woodworking, a jig is a type of tool used to control the location and/or motion of another tool. A jig's primary purpose is to provide repeatability, accuracy, and interchangeability in the manufacturing of products.[1] A jig is often confused with a fixture; a fixture holds the work in a fixed location. A device that does both functions (holding the work and guiding a tool) is called a jig.[citation needed]

An example of a jig is when a key is duplicated, the original is used as a jig so the new key can have the same path as the old one. Since the advent of automation and computer numerical controlled (CNC) machines, jigs are often not required because the tool path is digitally programmed and stored in memory. Jigs may be made for reforming plastics.

Jigs or templates have been known long before the industrial age. There are many types of jigs, and each one is custom-tailored to do a specific job. Many jigs are created because there is a necessity to do so by the tradesmen. Some are to increase productivity, to do repetitious activities and to do a job more precisely.

Some types of jigs are also called templates or guides. Jigs include machining jigs, woodworking jigs (e.g. tapering jig), welders' jigs, jewelers' jigs, and many others.

I have never seen a K1100 (and I've owned 4) that had perfect fairing or rear subframe alignment. They all seem to have a subtle tweak one way or another, probably from being dropped at one time or another and bending the bracket and or subframe.
