Mine has a factory kill switch - can't start it in neutral with the side stand down. It was standard from the factory that way, can't ride off with the side stand down. _________________ Steven B

| OK, I have two friends who have a R1150 and a Yamaha. Their bikes will start on the side stand and in neutral. It doesn't bother me at this point. I have had the bike for awhile, though at times it would be nice to start it on the side stand. Oh well.... |

It is not supposed to run while the side stand is down (as Steven said, so you don't ride off with it down), but you can easily disconnect the wires to the side stand switch and jump them together so the bike thinks the side stand is always up and it will run on the side stand, BUT be careful to have it up before you ride off!
I have mine set up this way. _________________ Steve

You also could buy part # 61121459998 CONTACT RING, to bypass the switch.
I have one of this in the ducktail, as it happen now and then that the switch mechanism is less cooperative.
Then I can check out the switch mechanism later on, when the time and place is more convenient.

Someday in my spare time....
I thought of bypassing the sidestand switch so it will start with the stand down.
But I would also have the sidestand switch activate the unused yellow choke light (if I can find the connections) or a can't-miss-it bright light added inside the fairing.
Best of both worlds? _________________ John & Cathy

Yes, that would be a cool set up. _________________ Steve

| Mine is a K1100 1999 model and is an ex-police bike, they have the side stand switch bypassed to allow the bike to idle while they write up a ticket, and are then able to jump back on with the motor still running without having to restart. I've reconnected mine and also use that circuit to disable the bike with the anti-theft system. |

Well I did just spend a large portion of the weekend in the garage prepping the 4 bikes for riding season. Guess I should do a few nights also and work on that sidestand light. _________________ John & Cathy

Or just keep one of those cheap mini one LED flashlights handy, like on your keychain. |

Duck did something like that on one of his bikes, a red LED (I believe) to be able to see the oil level easier in the daytime and at night. _________________ Steve

+1
Yea I just want to press a button, hot wired to the battery on a momentary switch that won't stay actuated, lean down and have a look see. I am figuring to put the button maybe on the knee pad on right side. This has been a plan for sometime but never got around to getting it done. |

So I did a clutch job, but didn't take a pic of how sidestand switch mounts.
Can someone help me? Thanks in advance |

Switch bracket should be mounted between the bridge/frame for the stands and the gearbox.

I've got my '97 on the table for some rehab, I'll see if I can find my camera for a pic or two. _________________ Ride safe.

OK, here's what I was able to shoot.
The last pic probably shows the best. You have the trans mount stub, then the spacer, then the switch bracket, then the center stand bracket.
The actuator arm of the switch is "released" when your sidestand is down(deployed) and then it's "depressed" when the side stand is retracted. _________________ Ride safe.
