Had an interesting call last night for the K.
Chatting to the fella and answering questions and thought, he sounds like he could be fairly old, being as diplomatic as possible I asked.
Have you had a K before?
No
You're aware that they're very heavy at a standstill?
Oh that won't be a problem, I don't intend to ride it much, I just like tinkering with them, I don't ride much nowadays, I'm 88.
Made me chuckle.
He may be coming to see it this weekend. _________________ I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, de-briefed or numbered! |

The K has now gone, not too far away, just to Fife.
The new owner has had a peruse on here and will likely be on and around.
So Hi to Chris if you see this, hope you enjoy the bike and give it the journeys it deserves and hope you have fun.

Good stuff, everything stayed upright and secure then I take it,
Shame the weather turned this afternoon, it was pretty nice early on, hope you had a good uneventful run back down there.
Even though I'm K bike-less i'll be checking in on here occassionally anyway, look forward to seeing it with a spit and polish and ready for it's upcoming epic journeys.

Had an afternoon working on the K and got quite a bit done! Radio, map light, cigar lighter and parking light are now working as they should. Was a broken wire to the fusebox. Plastics all treated, paintwork polished and final drive and swingarm given a coat of satin black. Everything else seems AOK, new rear tyre ordered, and will be MOT'd and on the road this week |

Excellent, some Radio 2 on the move,
It never bothered me enough to be honest, every other bike i've ever owned never had a radio and I like the soundtrack of the passing scenery but it's nice when those odd couple of bits work as they should, glad it was straightforward and i'm sure it'll be handy for when you do hop to the continent.
Odd on the sidelight as that always worked till just replacing the battery? I assumed the bulb had blown.
Speaking of wires, did you trace the odd plug from the rear rack and find out what it was a where it went?
Had my first ride this year today on the MT that you saw, cold but fun. I'll be glad when they stop salting the roads.
As I said, anytime you're heading skye-wards drop a text and stop by for coffee, would love to see the K all tidied up.
You'll love the adjustable screen BTW, I guarantee, I thought it was incredible. _________________ I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, de-briefed or numbered! |

Mike - and Tiff - the odd plug on the rear rack should be for the rear speakers - if it round and threaded with a bunch of pins in it. _________________ Jim

Yes, It is for rear speakers, The radio and cigarette lighter was disconnected inside the pocket, and there was a mass of wires to sort out- the fader control has a similar plug, which splits and goes to the rear plug which is fixed to the rear rack. Not sure if I'll bother with quadrophonic sound though!! Not that bothered about radio on the move, more for traffic and weather updates when travelling, although if we make it to the Alps, I'll stick on my Matt Monroe tape, and re-enact the Lamborghini Muira scene from the Italian Job, without the firey end I hope !!
I had a run of about 20 miles on the bike, and its great,-the electric screen IS good, but will have to play with it a bit more
It'll take a few more miles to get back into BMWing, and those rubber mounted bars are wierd for the first few miles. I Hated my R1100RS for the first 200 miles, then I loved it more than any other bike. The K will be the same |

There's a sticky in the tech section about stiffening the bars - it's pretty easy to do.
I lube the screen sliders with duPont teflon every spring - never had a problem - and I raise and lower the screen at any speed. _________________ Jim
