Hi, trying to remove mine but can't find the right size hex key in my toolkit.
Can anyone tell me what size it is? I've loosened the fixed pivot with a 12mm hex key.
Thanks,
Ray. |

6 mm (tightning torques: Pivot pin 7 Nm, Locknut 105 Nm, fixed pivot pin 150 Nm).
Have a look in this thread, to make a special tool to get the preload correct.

You don't need any special tool, a flat wrench works fine.
Be aware that torque values are valid only with pefectly clean threads, basically new. Otherwise just screw until you have no play but the drive moves freely.
Which side have you loosened, can you post a picture? _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.

Mine has a fixed pivot on the wheel side of the swinging arm (12mm hex). Then the adjustable one with he locking bolt on the outside.
The fixed one took some effort to loosen, even with heat and while I have undone the locking nut, I couldn't work out what size hex for the pin itself.
Bike has done 115000 miles in all weathers and this is the first time I've worked on his area of the bike. I bought it at 38000 miles so likely never been touched.
I think there is some corrosion/dirt in the 6mm hex socket on the pin so need to have a good clean out. The 5mm hex I tried was obviously too small and the 6mm wouldn't fit so I thought it worth checking what it should be before doing something drastic... |

Success...Once I knew what hex key should fit, I have cleaned out the internal hex of the pin and then the 6mm hex fitted and the pin is now removed.
Quite impressed as having inspected the UJ it has no play whatsoever after 115000 miles.
I'm in the process of fixing a slipping clutch, and thought I'd strip the final drive as well for inpection at the same time rather than just pull the whole transmission/final drive off the bellhousing. |
