Hi,
I have read, and printed out, Duck's articles on installing the audiovox ccs-100 and am excited about installing one on my '95 K-1100 LT but they don't make them anymore and are hard to find. There is occasionally one on ebay but they usually end-up selling for about $250 and who knows what you are really buying unless you have an original to compare it to! Also on ebay is a new model by Audiovox (250-1316) and another which claims to be the exact same item as the old ccs-100 (made in the same factory with all the exact same parts, wire color, etc.) sold by Sun Electronics in Fla.. Has anyone tried installing the new Audiox 250-1316 on their bike? This new model is all electronic with no vacuum required. I am not an electronis guy, but it sounds like it would install just like the way Duck described but without the vacuum.
Please, any advice? _________________ '95 K1100LT Hertford, N.C.-NooB |

I installed the old kind 2 yrs ago. Not $85 anymore, of course.
the 1316 "looks" the same except for the vacuum line.
Couldn't find any info - Does it use the speed sensor instead of vacuum??
Not sure if we have the VSS used on cars--might be the big problem.
Someone more knowledgeable may know.
I would find out how it senses the speed before paying that much.
Good luck

The Vacuum is not used for speed sensing, rather it us used for "pulling" the throttle cable to control the speed.
The speed is "senced" by the CC using a signal from the ign coils(or the tach signal).
I haven't tried to connect to the speedo sensor line, don't know if it would work or not.
The electronic version I presume uses a small electrical servo motor to "pull" the throttle cable for speed control. _________________ Ride safe.

All you need to do is tap into the speedo sensor wires. That works on the CCS-100 anyhow. I played with it on my first install and it worked fine. I decided to just run it from the coil signal though because that's one less pair of connections to fail.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of the clones on Fleabay. They look identical to the original and on the off chance that it doesn't work then Fleabay/PayPal pretty much always side with the buyer in a dispute so the risk of losing your money is negligible.
Murph's Kits also sells the clone for $170. http://www.murphskits.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=422
The electronic one will most likely tap into the coil signal as well - not only for cruise purposes but it's also a safety feature that keeps your cruise control from doing a runway engine. On the CCS-100 if you pull in the clutch then that will also disengage the cruise once the engine has surged a few hundred RPM - that's the anti-runaway feature kicking in.
My latest and greatest write-up on cruise control can be found here as a PDF attachment to the first post of this thread: http://www.motobrick.com/index.php?topic=434 _________________ 93 LT (x2)

| Good mod to do. I installed the old one on my 96 K1100RS and it works as advertised. If you are not comfortable with electronics then get some help and go slow. I got confused at first because electrons ain't my bag but I got it done right except the tie in to the throttle. Thank God for a kill switch. My fault not the cruise control. |

There's threads here on putting those in, including mine. Mind you mine has stopped working now which is a bit annoying. But while it was going it was awesome! _________________ K1100RS '97
