I've looked to see if i can find a thread about replacing the rear brake pads and cant find, so i will ask on here

Cant figure out how to get the pads out of the caliper, have it off, but how to you replace the pads?? Any help is greatly appreciated as my tires should be here tomorrow and will have them mounted sat, so want to ride asap..

There is a cap on top of the calliper that you remove first - it just clips in place; then you need to use a drift to drive out the two retaining pins at the top of the pads from the wheel side. You can then lift the pads out, press the pistons back in the calliper (make sure fluid doesn't overflow in the master cylinder) and put the new pads in; replace the pins and the cover.

You don't need the calliper off to do this, but IIRC having the wheel out makes it easier. I did the pad replacement at the same time as a rear tyre.

Ok, thanks for that, I'm doing tires so that's why its time for brakes, fronts are about 60% and the rear was about to give up the ship, so perfect timing.. Embarassed

I would suggest opening the bleed nipple before pressing the pistons back into the caliper, why ? Pressing the pistons back into the caliper,without opening the bleed nipple forces fluid back into the master cylinder and past the seals,I know,I've done it.When I found the fluid leaking past my master cylinder dust cover,I thought my seals had gone....but after cleaning up the excess fluid, no more leaking...so I realised what I had done in forcing the pistons back.
Since using the "open bleed nipple" approach No further problems with apparent fluid leaks. Question

Thanks for all the help, Just did the brakes today before putting my tire back on, looked harder than it was, I was really suprised at how easy it was as I'm used to cars and my honda vtx.

New tires, new brakes, new plugs, Wow!!! now its time to ride!!!! Very Happy

Finally figured out I had to grab the spanner wrench and change the shock spring rate to have any hope of removing the caliper pins. Rear pin came right out but the shock is still in the way of the forward pin. Can't even get the left pad out to get more wiggle room.

Any suggestions? I don't want to tear apart anything I don't need to. Learned that the hard way. Lost my manual so don't have torque specks anyway.

I just took the lower shouck mount loose, this will allow you enough room to do what you need to do. Once i did that it took me about 15 minutes to R&R the pads

Did a clutch job, but didn't take a pic of this bracket on rear brake. so, not sure how it mounts or it's purpose. See attached pic.
