Mine started doing this recently ( at 110000miles), it's the starter sprag clutch starting to fail. I tried flushing the engine to try to clear any deposits that may have been jamming it but it just got worse until I had to get it fixed.
To get at it, you have to remove the gearbox/final drive and the intermediate casting between gearbox and engine block. I think you have to remove the flywheel to get the intermediate one off.
I just didn't have the time/facilities to do it so left it to my local dealer.
Only real problem was the sprag clutch had to be ordered from BMW in Germany, and after 2 weeks there was still no ETA. Luckily, a secondhand one came up on Ebay so they fitted that.
So if you are going to get it dne it might be worth pre-ordering the clutch in case...
Cheers,
Ray. |

You can try to add 1 liter of diesel fuel to your oil, and run the engine at about 2000 - 2500 RPM 2 or 3 times 10 minutes, then have an oil change. _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.

Sounds to me like it's starting to get gummed up inside the sprague assembly.
Like 6 suggested get some thinning/cleaning agent in there to try and clean it up a bit. _________________ Ride safe.

Hi Thanks
Will have an oil change and se if it helps.
Disassembly the engine could be fun but IHMO prefere using that time for riding.
Let you know the result. |

In K100 days in Australia they arrived with no drain holes in the 11261460967 Ring for the free wheel cage.We used the below before having to take it out & drilling 5 6mm-1/4 holes before the factory did it.
With standard oil it was recommend to put in every second time a container of Wynn's Engine Flush 325ml's. It has a NOT FOR RETAIL SALE sticker plus FOR PROFESSIONAL USE ONLY wording.
You could do it 2 ways.
1-Have engine at operating temp
2-Put the hole container into your engine oil an run motor for 10-15 minutes. Direction say idle for 15-30
3-Flush oil as normal including filter.
I go about 4 klm's away then put it in & ride back at low revs-3000rpm because engine does not hit fan temp this way.
To guard against engine contamination I recommend to use for the life of the machine. _________________ Yamaha TX650A

Please don't say so.
A possible course could be that I filled a bit to much oil last time.
Hope for the best.

I am just saying you should use an oil with cleansing agents like diesel oil which proved to be very effective in your case. _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.

Merci vielmahl.
So I will do.
And done, with success.
BTW: tried the K16, to funny will gine to many points in short time, as my experience with K13GT in the alpa. Will stick to the K11LT it's more compatible with my ridingskill = both are tested to their limits
