I've decided my '93 KRS helmet lock is worthless. It will not work with the four helmets I use from time to time, so I use a cable lock.
The bike's helmet lock looks like it too far inside the bike for any helmet strap to go around and lock in it.

There is an extender made that works with the BMW helmet lock - which I'm sure is made to work only with BMW helmets...

I've gone 3rd party and picked up a dual lock that plates on with the rear license plate.
Sometimes if I have the hard bags on I'll just put the strap with the D-rings inside the case lid close the lid on the strap and lock the case. Pretty secure as well.

I have tried the one that is with the seat lock, just to cumbersome to use.

Hi. According to the "Rider's Handbook", that is supplied with the bike, If the slot on the lock is vertical - it is locked. If The key is turned to the left and pressed in - the dualseat is unlocked. if the key is turned to the right and pressed in - the helmet lock opens, allowing the helmet to be attached.I thought mine wasn't working, because unless you look carefully, it still looks locked when in fact the gate has opened. once you have managed to loop your helmet strap through the (very small) opening, you snap it shut. As long as you leave the keyslot in the vertical when you remove your key, it's all locked up. Cheers, Dodge.
