On the subject of tyres, has anybody tried Michelin Pilot Activs on an LT?
Apparently, this is the replacement for Macadam 50's which were great on British roads and, I'm told are being phased out.
I've had a pair of Pilot Activs on now for 300 miles and find them very twitchy in the damp and wet where the Mac 50's outstanding.
Any comments? _________________ K1100LTIC |

Been running the 150/70ZR-17 on a stock LT rim. Fit is not an issue. On my second set.

Me too. I love them!
Thanks Jeff for turning me on to that combo.
PR2's are excellent on the LT.
I've got an 18" rear rim if anyone with an LT is interested. _________________ '02 - GL1800

Are these tyres OK for the LT which needs the reinforced walls, with the B in specification?

Listed...but in the cart it says to call for availability...
Everyone seems to have my 120/70 17 front, but not the 160/60 18 rear... _________________ Bob T.

My BMW parts guy returned my call about fitting these on a K1100LT and said the front PR3 would not be available until mid-March. Also said going to the 150/70zr-17 size on the rear, well, this tire has a lower load rating than the macadam 50 I currently use. Something like a 250lb load difference.
My question for y'all: I ride 2-up with the SO 20% of the time, let's say between the two of us we're 340lbs (for you in the UK: approx 25 stone): think the load difference would matter?
Curious what y'all think.
Cheers! _________________ 1997 K1100LT

JO and Micki ride 2-up on their RS (about 1,200 pounds) on PR2s. He's tried other tires and the PR2 is his tire of choice. Based on that I'd say you're probably OK.
Disclaimer: He's on an RS so the tire's a bit different.
Other disclaimer: If you die it's not my fault. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Ordered and received a front 120/70 17 from Dennis Kirk...good price, fast shipping...
This is a nice looking tire...cannot wait to mount it and try it.
Still looking for a US source for the RS rear. _________________ Bob T.

Sorry Bob - my bad - I forgot it was 18". Try calling Michelin - they should be able to give you some info. If the tire is available in that size, they can probably tell you who has it. _________________ Jim

The RS wheel, (which is what I need), is 160/60 18...none of these guys have them yet....

First site I looked at I found sizes for the LT with RS rear wheel. |
"Call for availability"
"This item is currently backordered"
"Availability: Usually ships in more than 2 weeks"
But it is starting to sound like soon....
Hope so...mounted my front yesterday... _________________ Bob T.
