I made a choice to redo the seat. The original owner placed on the bike a Corbin. Very comfy mind you, but needs to be recovered. Lotsa tears on the sides and beat to death in the middle. The butt gets wet when I wash the bike or I get caught in the rain. So I set it up with Corbin to get it done. Come spring I'll have the seat back just in time for a ride. If not I have no fear, I still have the factory seat to use, in mint condition. Then I need to look into gettin the bike repainted. Not that the whole bike needs it, just the front end. Any one have suggestions for a shop in my area or a way to get spray bombs in Mystic Red? _________________ Live free and ride hard. 94 K1100RS Brick rider |

Hmm, I'm glad that I have you all for advise. Thanks for the thread for Corbin's totaly suckin customer service. So now that I'm leary about sending the seat to them, California shop only used for refurbishing and manufacturing, then where? I did get a prompt letter from them with samles of leathers and vinls, scraps in haphazard shapes etc. not very professional. Any one gotta web site link to a reliable site? I'll try to locate a automobile apolsterer? The real bummer about it all is the low cut in the seat is what I need to help my length challenged inseam. The bike is too tall for me. I do plan on replacing the rear shock for a shorter one to lower the bike etc. I do like the comfort the current seat provided though. Time to do serious research. _________________ Live free and ride hard. 94 K1100RS Brick rider |

I'd recommend looking around locally. Put the seat on the bike and ride around to some local auto/marine upholstery shops to get quotes. Many of them have motorcycle seat experience. For a shop that knows what they're doing expect to pay about $350 or so although sometimes you can get a better deal at the right shop. Prices also vary based on whether you want vinyl or leather.
Also, since Corbin seats are riveted, offer to drill the rivets yourself before giving them the seat as this should save some labor. Some shops will cut you some slack in the price for doing that.
Edit: Also note that many of the shops you find online won't touch a Corbin seat. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Yep I have found that out. Here's one more thing, I found out that Day-long saddle, Rick Mayer saddle do not manufacture saddles for K1100 bikes! Only K1200 or K1300. Still looking. I will try to find a place arround here for Auto/Marine shops to do it. As far as riding it, not yet...Too much ice and snow not to mentionthe sand and pot holes on the road ways. _________________ Live free and ride hard. 94 K1100RS Brick rider |

I have a K1100 Russell on my LT right now. My K75 has a Rick Mayer that came from a K1100. Both Mayer and Russell use the factory seat pan and both of those seats definitely have K1100 BMW seat pans. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Corbin seems to be a pariah in the industry. I think the other guys don't like the heavy fiberglass seat pans Corbins builds nor dealing with the rivets.
That said, their seats have worked pretty well for me. I ran a Dual Tour on my K75RT the whole time I owned it and have also run one on my K1100LT at times. I have a 34" inseam so they're a little short for me but I've always found them to be comfortable.
I also have a Dual Canyon on my K1100RS and am happy with that.
The Gunfighters and Rumble seats are decent too but tend to be a bit too hard for my liking since I have a skinny butt.
Mayers and Russells are better seats though, especially if you have them made for your body. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I have used both the stock "comfort" style as well as a couple of corbin dual canyons and I now have 2 Russel Daylong's that I like better yet over the Corbins. _________________ Ride safe.

I have a Corbin on My K1100RS custom order online, no issues, love the look, hard seat, I can only ride about 90 minutes with jeans on, all day with riding pants, no worries.
I have a Corbin on my ol 81 R100RS. It got all old and nasty like your seat is.
I sent it to " http://www.buttbuffer.com " Really it's family freindly, soem some freak link. They put some medical gel inserts in and a new cover. The new cover is more smooth than the Corbin and not as flashy, but OH so much more comfy. Good solid work, pretty quick turn, couple of weeks at most.
Google em, then call. I think they could rebuild your seat for about $200.00.
Good luck. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

Does that R100 Corbin have a fiberglass seat pan? (I'd guess that it does.)
I'm curious about the gel stuff. I looked into it once and supposedly it firms up in colder weather. What's been your experience? Noticeable difference at different temps?
On the Dual Canyon I have for my K1100RS if I'm going to using it for all day touring then I use an Alaska butt pad and it works great that way. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Yup, the old Corbin on the R bike had a fiber glass pan
The gel insert is stiffer when cold, but warms and fits after a bit.
I really don't notice it much. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

I found a local company that will do the job for me. the quote is on the mark for what I am looking for about 300 or so. the price may change if some or all of the padding needs to be replaced. They quoted it with heavy weight weather proofed leather. might be nice change but gotta see it first. _________________ Live free and ride hard. 94 K1100RS Brick rider |
