I got the instructions off the ibmwr website in 1999. It was written in 1995 by Rob Lentini.

and could you send me the instruction as well? i have a valve that does not want to lower the vacuum enough (or the other are to low Wink)

This goes back to my original post on this thread where I mention doing the TB sync by adjusting the screws you are never suppose to touch. These screws adjust the butterfly valves themselves. The brass bypass screws adjust the vacuum which makes up for the differences in the butterfly valves and how far they are open or closed.

Just wanted to give this thread a bump and give these plugs a big +100.

Both my K1100LT and K1100RS are now running these plugs. They made a HUGE improvement is how smoothly both bikes run. If you don't believe me, ask Johnny. When he was over here on Thursday I had him twist the throttle on my RS to see just how smoothly it now runs.

I haven't done any mileage comparison but will when I ride home in January and can log some consistent cruise control miles. I also had these in the K75 I owned over the summer. I got 57.5 out of that bike one day which is better than I've ever gotten close to on any K75 I've owned.

(The smoothness and better runing engine means more to me than mileage though.)

Also note that iridium plugs last longer. Guys on car forums were claming they were getting 50k of use out of a set. I'll check them every 5k or so and see how they look.

I'll also be using these on my project K75.

Along with the cruise control (and LEDs Very Happy) I think this is the best bang for the buck I've put into my bikes.

I just ordered a set, my bike's been a little "buzzy" at about 4k RPM. $32.95 incl. shipping using the E-bay link in RAL88's original post..

I'll report back after I get them installed.

It's another 10 or 12 bucks for the throw away plugs with the little screw on caps...

Good morning all...

Just my $.02 on the Iridium plugs... have not yet installed them on my "new to me" K1100LT.. BUT I did install iridiums on both my big Kawasaki Vulcan as well as on my 'ol R100/7 last summer and the difference has been amazing. The Vulcan (carbuerated ) will now give nearly instant throttle response and has proven to increse the milage from a previous 41/42 mpg highway, to a repeatable 47/48 under the same 'long haul' conditions. The 'ol '76 R100/7 Airhead will now start instanly, and it too has improved milage from appx 35/36 mpg to appx 39/40 also under highway conditions... Because of this and the low tendency to 'foul', I am going to install iridiums on the K-bike as well...

OK.... thats been my experience with the NGK Iridiums to date....

While searching for an online source for those little screw on caps that I'm not going to get on my new spark plugs, I came across this Craigslist rant that "crack"ed me up.

I still haven't found a source for those caps though, anyone have any ideas? I guess maybe I'll just taken them off the old plugs.

I don't think the Bosch plugs have removable ones. I'd stop by some local auto or small engine mechanic shops to try to track some down. Or buy four of the cheapest spark plugs you can find that have them.

Steve - Drake is right - the Bosch plugs don't have the caps - that's why I said you have to buy cheap throw away plugs to get the caps for your expensive, super good plugs that don't come with caps.

Unless you get lucky and find a motogeezer working at some repair shop who's been saving them for years and has a whole bucket full...

Steve, find you local small engine shop and look thru their old plug bucket. You know the plugs they pull out that are the wrong ones for the engine that they are in, cause the owner didn't know what he was putting in.

The last time I used NGK plugs on my K1100LT, before I started using Autolites, I had the same problem. I went to a local store - Auto Zone, Pep Boys, etc. - explained my problem and asked if they had any of the caps. They did and gave me the 4 I needed. Ask at the parts stores; you might get lucky as I did.

Thanks for the tips, it just seems you'd be able to buy something like that seperately if they don't come on those plugs.

Would my old plugs have them? I can just use those.

IF your old plugs are not Bosch, or if they are NGK or some other plug that has a twist off cap...

I got my plugs the other day, got them installed and finally had a chance to go for a ride today.

Overall I'd say I'm pleased with them. The bike is running a good bit smoother, especially at the higher RPM's. It seems to have just a bit more umpf, especially when in the lower gears, nothing dramatic, just seems a little more responsive.

My main hope was for more smoothness and I'd say it has smoothed things nicely.

I don't really care about MPG as I don't do serious miles, but if it saves a few miles, that’s a bonus.

Negatives; price. I paid $32.95 for the set (incl. shipping), and then had to find some cheap plugs with screw off caps. The auto parts store guy looked at me like I was crazy when I asked for some cheap plugs with screw off caps. He couldn't find any, anywhere in the whole store. He finally gave up after searching and opening boxes for 15 minutes. Then the next day I stopped in our local Cycle Gear store just to kill some time and asked if they had spark plugs. They had some NGK's with the screw off caps for $2.99. I didn't feel like going to another auto store, so I bought them there.

So at $11 a pop total cost each, certainly not a bargain. But with the miles I do, they'll last for many years, so if it makes my bike run smoother and therefore more comfortable on the hands and wrist, it's worth it to me.

I'll damn sure hold onto the little caps the next time I get a set!

The NGK site says that the part number is DR7EA. Is this NOT the ones that some of you guys are running?

The DR7EAs are regular ole spark plugs, not iridium ones.
