Easy question for someone better at electric things than I am:

I'm finally getting around to installing bikevis bullet lights on da k1100LT.

Thought I'd wire them into the headlight wires, so the bullets are on when the headlight is on (which, in Oregon, has to be on while riding).

Headlight has a yellow, white, and brown wire. I managed to suss out that brown is ground. I assume yellow and white are both "+" with one controlling low beam and one high beam (?). I think if the headlights are on I'd want to tie into the low beam then. Would that be white or yellow? I'd guess white on the basis that if earth (ground) is brown, the high beam would be the color of Mr. Sun.

I'm open to suggestions if tying into the headlight wiring is a bad idea for some reason Wink

Thanks!

It will work off there fine but the low beam is the yellow wire. Check out the wiring diagram here and you will see the high beam warning light is fed by the white wire.

Cheers

If you want them always on with the headlight then tap into the white wire with a yellow stripe.

I'm not sure how much current these light draw, but I would feed them from a relay, using the white/yellow wire as the relay coil driver with a dedicated hot wire from the fuse box to power the lights themselves. Our stock headlight wiring is weak as it is, more load can't be good.

They only draw 1/3 watt each. I'd just tap into the white/yellow wire and wouldn't bother with a relay, especially if you've already got headlight relays. It might be a good idea to put an in-line 1 or 3w fuse near where you tap into the white/yellow wire.

Woops, forgot to post the link:-

As to a relay, they don't draw enough to make any difference as FD says, but adding relays for the headlights them selves is a good idea, but not one for these extra lights themselves, just add them to the yellow wire.
