Our bikes are kinda rare here and look what popped up for sale recently...hmmm. Quite tempting I must say, and I even like the colour! Razz It's a '94 K1100LT, converted to a single seater. Are those crash bars on the engine stock? Tempting, tempting.....

Chris

That looks rather like an ex police bike with the top box in place of the rear seating - and yes, the 'crash' bars are stock. Not that they are much good in a crash, as they have a flexible mounting, sort of like a rubber bush, where they bolt on but they probably work adequately if you drop the bike in the shed Very Happy Not sure whether they would actually protect the panniers, however, but I'm not wanting to test it on mine.

Is it cheaper than buying new tyres for your current bike?

Yeah, I think it's very possible this is an ex-cop bike, it has all the makings of one actually! These bikes sometimes pop up, but usually they're old Honda CBXs, not BMWs Smile

Drikko....LOL!!!!!!!! Laughing No, tyres would still be cheaper Smile

Tell me they aren't CBX1000s Very Happy

If the seller will let you pull the windscreen panel off the front, you'll probably find a shipload of wires in there that have been neatly cut off when the police accessories were removed.

Are you guys referring to the CBX with the in-line six engine? Those are definitely collectors items here too! Very rare.

Nah, the ex-cop bikes were CBX750s, exactly like this one, but white:

I wldn be surprised if this black one was an ex-cop bike too, just painted over. Many have popped up recently cos the new cop bikes are all VFRs, damn they look good.

As one who has tested them recently on a fully loaded K11 in a pub car park on gravel. Damage:-
Mirror popped off, well scraped but it was already.
No damage to fairing.
Slight scuff to bars, rubbers still OK.
Offside controls moved inwards about an inch, but that saved the brake lever, on which it landed.
Off side pannier, multiple scratches, mainly due to bike moving a bit whilst picking it up.
Pulled the pop rivets out of the bottom lock.
IMHO the pannier only survived coz it was crammed full.

Without panniers, the glove box edge of the fairing suffers DAMHIK.

G'day Chris

That is definately a ex-cop bike. Just look at the 2 holes just under the screen. The red/blue lights are mounted there.

If it is a good price, buy it. You can always source dual seats for it and your panniers will fit straight on.

Over here in AUS a big percentage of k bikes are ex cop bikes , usually have high milage and have had a good thrashing from day one, but sell cheap. cheers Ausbrick Mick

Yeah, cops get to thrash bikes and don't have to pick up the maintenance tab. I used to have a pic of a (French I think) policeman wheelieing a K75RT. That CAN'T be good for the drive train. Shocked

Hahahaha! A 'matching set' eh? Hmmm.....that would be quite interesting I guess, both white Razz

They'd complement my 2 other 'white' projects, a '79 Corona Sedan, and '81 Corona Liftback...I'd already finished restoring the sedan, and from nowhere this liftback popped up for sale, it's really rare here, so I had to have it..

So 2 white BMW bikes and 2 white Coronas...my neighbours will call 2 men in white coats in a white van to come get me...LOL!! Wink

Chris

Actually, that's quite true, even on my current RS, cars quickly move out of my way when I'm approaching thinking I'm a cop, with the LT they may pull over and stop....hahahaha! Razz

Yes they do get thrashed, but they also get serviced and sold when they hit 40,000 Kms, don't forget how strong these motors are, the crash bars are on those bikes know as "Special Vehicles" are wider than the standard model LT, as that is where the siren is mounted? I have put a set of Hella 130 Watt spotlights there the 180 sieries and they work a treat?
