I've just bought a 93 K1100RS without heated grips.
I've just picked up a genuine BMW heated grip kit for the bike, which surprised me by coming with handlebars. So I thought I'd just check to see if the bars already on the bike would accept the grip set when I saw that the end weights were part of the bars
The heated grip kit doesn't come with end weights, so what is the solution? I don't fancy hot but numb hands, so end weights are a must. All and any helpful replies welcomed.

I have a set that you can have free- but the postage might not be worth it. Let me know.

Don't ya just love BMWs approach to such things (fortunately someone sprung for genuine BMW heated grips before I bought my bike!) even something as simple as bar end weights/handlebars had to be "reinvented" so no other normal product will fit,not even the standard BMW bars ! _________________ 1993(94 MODEL) K1100RS IN ASTRAL BLUE

The bar ends aren't part of the bars. You can pull the plastic caps off and unscrew the bolts that hold them on. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Your right FD,but I heard that the bar end weights on the standard bars are a welded on item ?
Getting the plastic caps off the bar end weights on my RS(with factory heated grips) took a long time and a lot of ingenuity as they had "bonded" themselves to the weights and I did not want to destroy them in the removal.
A little gentle heating and a very fine screwdriver blade slipped down the edge eventually did it. _________________ 1993(94 MODEL) K1100RS IN ASTRAL BLUE

The mounts for the bar end weights should be welded to the bars.
What's the BMW part number for the kit you got? It might be the wrong one. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

That is weird - I believe my heated grip kit for my K11 re-used the stock bar end weights using bar inserts in the kit to anchor. Do your grips have holes at the end or are they closed like the kit for the K75? What is the part number on the kit you bought? I believe this is the kit I used:
#61312316479 (apparently re-uses the bar-ends.)
Here is my write-up for it.
EDIT - OK, now I remember The new bar did not have the welded nipple at the end like the stock, it had just empty hole at the end. When you put in the new grips you thread the wire through an anchor that fits in the bar and into which you screw your old bar end weights. Look at the image above, the anchors are #3. When I later replaced the bar with a C bar I reused them as not only are they great to have, you need them to use a throttlemeister. _________________

I didn't buy these heated grips a former owner had them fitted at a BMW dealership. The kit came with new specific handlebars for the heated grips. So I do not know the specific part numbers. _________________ 1993(94 MODEL) K1100RS IN ASTRAL BLUE
