Well this has been the first nice week, at least earlier this week and I was able to put some good riding in. I have been getting a constant 49-52mpg on the bike on the highway running between 65-70mph. This week I was able to run a pretty constant 54 mpg!!! This is according to my Fuel+.
The only thing that has changed since last year is I put on a new set of Metzeler Z6 Interact radial tires. The first thing I noticed about the tires were they were a lot quieter than my Lazertecs. When I put up my windshield a little it really blocks the wind and I can hear the engine and tires. This time there was a lot less tire noise. They also absorbed the bumps better. I've known that radials are better for gas mileage on cars but I didn't really expect to see a difference on the bike. As for traction. I haven't ridden them in the rain yet but on dry ground I do not see much difference from the Lazertecs. I can still heel over as far as I did before and feel that they were not going to break loose. _________________ Rich

Hi Rich,
Is this the first instance of a radial tire that comes in standard size front and rear for an LT? _________________ Jim

Hey Jim,
No, I had to pick up a rear rim from an RS. _________________ Rich

In the SW there are many areas where elevated and sustained velocities are doable. On a previously owned K1200RS, the Interacts gave exceptional tire life compared to Michelin and Bridgestone. What I liked, however, was the fast handling and the wet weather performance. Z6 Inteacts for me!!
It was the first thing I did on my "new" K1100RS, replacing the tires.
On another subject, a group of six of us, all Beemer riders, experimented with using NO2 in place of normal air on two sets each of same brand tires this past year without noticing any difference whatsoever. But, it was a fun endeavor.

I have been very pleased with my Z6 Interact on the front of my LT. I put one on last year before Hungry Lobster and still have 50% tread life after HM3 this spring.
I have to double check the actual #'s but that close to at least 8K miles since last fall. I'm running at 38-40 psi. _________________ Ride safe.
