Hi Steve...

The red light with the triangle is only the Tail-light indicator... Do you have the clutch lever pulled in ??

If it is the side stand switch, the fuel pump will not run when the key is turned on. Does the fuel pump run?

Dirty contacts on the kill switch come to my mind.
Cycle it a few times and see if it will change anything.

Good morning Steve...

As Scott said... Kill Switch may be a problem... ( use contact cleaner )
Then Side stand switch may also be a problem ( most common )...
Then Clutch-Engage Switch on left bar grip.... (delicate little switch )...

Check these thorghly before moving on... Do you have an electrical system schematic and a multimeter ??

Regards.........// Ernie in NH

it was the side stand switch cleaned it up and it worked.......................................................................................................................................................................... then this morning irode to work about 9 miles.......... 100 yards away and the electrics cut out again................. this time i had lights on the dash and when i pressed the start button it acted like it had a flat battery put the battery on charge for 11 hours while i was working replaced it on the bike and it fired up volt test showed 13.5 ish volts at the battery at idle and only 12.7 when i turned the lights on does this look like a duff battery to you guys or a charging fault??

How old is the battery? When you rev it a bit it should run the voltage up to 14.1 or so.

I use one of these, no acid to worry about. Flattened it (old age, mine) by forgetting to disconnect the sat nav charger, it recovered with no issues. 2 years old now. Fits the bike better than a Hawker Odyssey & the ABS likes it more than the original.
