|
|
Well, this afternoon, I decided to pull tht speaker pod to change the speakers since I had some laying around. That was the least of my worries. I finally got the tupperware off after thankfully remembering someone said to use an icepick to get the radio side pocket out.
After I did the install of the Polk speakers I have had for a few years sitting from some failed project in the past and never used, I started looking around for any loose bolts or fasteners behind the faring. Right away I noticed one mount broken loose. I pulled the bolt and caught the faring piece with a threadcert and gooped it up good with JB Weld and situated it where it broke off. Put the bolt in just enough so I could push on the bolt to make sure it was seated correctly.
Also found that the two actuating arms for the windshield up/down were broken. I knew they were messed up but had never seen them so did not know about any fix. I drilled another hole in the arms and jury rigged them using a couple zip ties and a washer. It is temporary but fixed good enough to stay all the way up for now. Better not to cycle it up and down because it just hangs by a thread.
Anybody have any ideas about fixing thes arms? They are aluminum and attach to the windshield. Or do you need to find the whole assembly?
Waiting until tomorrow to put it back together. _________________ Mike Holbrook

I have a good spare arm. Don't remember which side off the top of my head. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Well, the JB Weld seems to be holding so I put her back together this afternoon. The windshield is secured in the maximum up position. I can change that but I'm tall so why? I'll just leave it alone and hope for the best for a while.
Does everyone's radio run with the ignition off? The leads were all hot with the ignition off and I could not find a switched lead in the box.
Speakers sound much better than the old ones but I'm wondering about a Radio in a motorcycle. Kind of hard to hear it and make any sense of it. Maybe in a touring environment. _________________ Mike Holbrook

My radio power was on all the time as well as power to the reading light. I moved them to a switched fuse inside the box but I didn't keep notes as to what wire I used. I only play the MP3 through my radio with a cassette adaptor and never open the cover so I wanted it to shut off with the ignition. _________________ Doug

There are 2 off locations on the ignition switch.
From Ign on, turning ccw(left) the 1st off position kills the ign system and the lights and such but the handle bars are free to turn. The map light and radio still have power in this switch postion.
If you then turn the bars far enough to the right you can then turn the switch one more position to the left(ccw) and "lock" the steering. This position also now turns off the map light power and the radio power. _________________ Ride safe.

Mine turns off at the first position. I believe there are two hot wires for the radio, one to run it and one to preserve memory. It may be wired wrong.
As I've said before, I would be very careful about riding faster than 20 mph with a windshield that has any faulty parts holding it on. I know some of you are tired of hearing this. _________________ Jim
