Paul,
I change and balance my own "tyres". Rim protectors, irons, mounting lube, a Marc Parnes balancer and stick-on weights.
You and I need to discuss what rubber you want to mount. This past season I purchased Michelin Pilot Road 2 tires- front and rear. Really liked them and the wear was better than the Metzeler Z6 from the year before.
I will be looking to order new rubber for my K in the next few weeks- they will be PR2 again. Let me know. Even if you are unsure about bringing your bike or not- I could always use the extra set for 2011.

Paul,
I did look into Michelin PR2 tyres front and rear. To buy and ship to me they would be NZ$ 400 (just under 300 USD) - I hope my $$ conversion is correct?
Let me know if you and I should put new rubber on your K.

John,
That looks like a good price and it sounds as though you are well set up to do the tyre change, I will see how I go with the agents regarding the K and then decide on it.
When are you looking at ordering your tires ?
I was also thinking the only trouble with leaving it till I get over there, is if the K is late arriving or gets tied up in customs it then puts pressure on us to get it sorted.
I've always gone for Bridgestone's 120/70ZR17 front & 160/60ZR18 rear, but hey so long as they grip the road thats what its all about.

Paul,
The possible delay in the bike getting free from customs does not worry me. What is the very worse case?- we can't make it to HM- or we get there early Saturday.....or I end up with this-

I really like the bags and then I would have 2 bricks in the garage _________________ John & Cathy

Yes that would do the job, but what are you saying that you are looking at buying it for yourself or for me to buy ?
It would be perfect for me to buy for the trip but is a bit is a bit early in the piece at the moment, as I say I really do want to bring my old girl over.
Regarding HM, hey don't worry on that score if Darryl and I get screwed up with shipping & customs you guy's stick with your plans and we would catch up with you down there, thats not a problem.

Hi Guy's,
Well we are still trying to get a favorable rate from the shipping agents here, I have just received a quote from one of the agents of NZ$ 7,800 so have canned them but still have a couple of more irons in the fire, but wont know anymore till Monday.
So based on that quote if the others are around the same it looks like we will be buying a couple of BM's for the trip over there.
Will keep you up with the developments.
Its nice and warm here John but I'm busy working inside the house scoring Brownie Points, decorating !!

Hi Guy's,
Anybody got any information regarding changing the ownership title on a bike can a dealer who is selling a bike do it, or do you have to do it yourself and how long does it take to do ?
Also would there be a problem with us being non US residents !

In the US, when you buy with cash the dealer signs the title over to you and typically gives you a temporary license plate.
As residents of a state we then take the title to that state's official office (this varies state to state- we go to our town clerk in N.H. while others go to the Dept of Motor Vehicles). They then give you your permanent license plate and the new title comes in the mail in a variable number of weeks.
One thought- might be a "long shot" but maybe contact a dealer (example: Franks or Max?) and ask about buying 1 or 2 used bikes with a guaranteed resale $$ back to them. You would insure it and they could give you a temporary license plate. I don't know how they might feel about that. Worth a try??
Anybody else with some ideas? _________________ John & Cathy

Hi, John,
Yeah, I was thinking of that myself, but I don't have enough bikes any more! And besides, I live in (and the bikes are garaged in) El Paso, a long way from the East coast. The TX temporary tag is good for 30 days. How long are NH or NY temp tags good for? How long will they be riding in the US and Canada?
On the buy/resale, once a title is signed, it's open. One can always "forget" to put the date and/or buyer's name on it. When the bike is bought back, the same title is given back. Yes, it's signed, but so what? Keep it in a safe place and when it's really sold months or years later, date it and put the new buyer's name on it and none's the wiser. TX titles do not need to be notarized for a sale, either. _________________ Ride Safe,

Hi Guy's,
It sounds as though the tag wont be a problem, we have already talked about approaching a dealer about doing a buy back and Franks in Vermont have a couple of BM's on the floor, a nice K75 and a K100RS which would just fit the bill.
We have been looking at them just hope they don't sell them in the next week, as we still would really prefer to bring over our own bikes, and this next week is really make or break on it and if we don't get any sense out of the shipping agents over here we will give Franks a ring and sort out a deal with them, might even give them a call mid week just to sound them out.
So by this time next week we should know either way what we are doing.
Got my ESTA application accepted so thats one more thing out the way. _________________ Paul & Gill

Given the cost it is to ship, wouldn't it be MUCH easier/cheaper to purchase a brick here? Or have a KOG member purchase one for you? _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

OTG, I think that's what the last two or three posts have been about. purchasing here and then maybe selling back to the dealer, less reasonable fees.. _________________ Steve

In the past its been as broad as its long (old Pome saying) with shipping the bike, you have to do a reasonable lenth trip to make it worth while, 6 weeks or more, and it then out ways the other options.
But as I have said it is a bit of a person thing now taking the K on these trips. _________________ Paul & Gill

If I were closer to the east coast, or if they were flying more inland I'd let them ride one of mine LT's. The '97 hasn't had a good road trip for a couple of years.
I also know where there is an RS setting(not far from me), just itchen to be ridden. But not mine to offer up. _________________ Ride safe.

Hi, Scott,
They fly into El Paso and pick up my K75A/3. They ride double to Iowa and pick up the K1100LT, shipping whatever they can't carry to your house via UPS. We all 4 then ride to Hungry Mother III, me on the K75RTP, you on whichever bike you want to ride, them on your other bike and my K75A/3. How does that sound? _________________ Ride Safe,

Paul,
I have an idea and this might be best all around..
I would be willing to buy the K75 at Franks. I think that I could do that for about $3500-3700US.
For HM- you and Darryl ride the K75 and my K1100RS. I would ride my son's Ducati. After that the 2 of you take off on the 2 BMWs for a few weeks, and finally return to my home in Sugar Hill.
My "rental fee" for the 2 BMWs would be 1/2 the price of the K75 (your part would be about $1750-1850US). That has to be much better than any other buy/sell idea, right?
(I figure that the 2 BMWs would be in really good hands.)
You could then go back home without worrying about disposing of something that you bought here, or titles or temp. license.
Let me know soon- I could be over at Frank's within a few days to see it, CAREFULLY check it over and, if we want to do this, I could get it home, have it in great working order (with K11OG forum help from K75 owners) and registered by May.
The least I could do for a couple of riders coming from the other side of the Earth.

John,
Had a chat with Darryl and we both agree its good idea and would make economic sense and would be a win win situation all round.
It is great that you would do that but means that you would have to give up your ride down to HM on your K and end up with an extra bike in the garage that you may not need, plus letting someone else ride your pride & possession !
Had a good talk with another shipping agent this afternoon who I have dealt with for some other shipping, not bikes, he is going to get back to me by the weekend and things sounded promising.
So as I say we are going to wait till then and see what comes of it and then make the final decision.
Sorry to be sitting on the fence over it, but we will get things sorted one way or another then.

Paul,
See how any other shipping might work out from your end.
But I am 100% OK with going to HM on the Ducati (you guys will probably be able to keep up with me ) after all- my K will be there too.
As far as ending up with another bike in the garage, how can I possibly soldier on with that "burden"
Seriously, it looks as if it would be a better hot summer day ride with less bodywork. And this would allow me to get past Cathy's mild objection to a 4th bike in the garage- I can do it under the guise of helping out a fellow K11OGer.
As far as someone else riding it-(after all, mine did belong to someone else for the first 13 years of its life)- I figure that you have two yourself and know how to ride an RS. Besides you could tell me any good or bad on an extended test ride.
BTW, I am a bit of a nut for maintenance and my K is CLEAN (ask Scott, Jim, OTG or Phil) so no worries about arriving here and having to ride a bomb.
So this is an honest offer. See how things work out at your end.
