Does anyone have the dimentions to make a tool to fit my K1100RS.
The last time I worked on the clutch I used the push rod with tape wound on it.

We now have a machine shop at work and can get one made for free.
Regards

Hi Duck,

Thanks a zillion, our machinist will have it knocked out well before the parts arrive. Very Happy

Interestingly, its way cheaper to buy the parts in the UK and pay a courier to ship to Africa than go to the local dealer Shocked

I'll post some pic's of why the 6000km clutch needed fixing.
Basicly I boo boo'ed, there are some good lessons here. Embarassed

The tool I use is a VW air cooled clutch alignment tool from any good Import auto parts store. About 5.00

I never made the tool.
lineing it up by eye and checking with masking tape wrapped round the push rod worked a treat.

The machine sop lads made a neat little tool to center and drift the pushrod oil seal cunningly hidden in the tranny shaft.

I'll post some pic's soon

K Fans,

I prefer to use the correct tools so I ordered from San Jose BMW the clutch centering tool:

K-OH Clutch Alignment Tool« Go BackClutch alignment tool for 1983-97 K bikes AND R1100 models 5 speed only

Part Details
Price: $39.99
SKU: PART-21-680
Category: Misc.
Brand: Tools
Notes: N/A

http://www.sjbmw.com/parts.asp?s=store#http://www.sjbmw.com/parts.asps=store&bid=&mid=31&src=&p=1&pid=394

With Shipping at $15 came to $55. Worth the cost to do the job 1st time.

I just use a socket of the same diameter.

Martin,
I always figured the right tool was whatever you had or could modify was the right tool. I just used the clutch rod and a socket with about 2 wraps of masking tape. Worked like a dream and I still had $55 that I used to buy a new valve cover gasket with.

Don't get me wrong. I like to get new tools.

Jeff,

Good for you. I have also improvised myself but figured since I tore the K apart I'm already $700 ahead....looking at a few upgrades to the K.
