It must be desperate times out there but I have seen a couple od K1200RS prices around $3500. One on IBMWR right now '99 w/ 40K clean
and another locally.

Makes me tempted. I remember test driving one in '04 and have coveted one ever since. Bought my Paralever K100 later that year and have had many great adventures.. about 50,000 miles worth. As well documented on the site (under dreaded driveline failure) I got the opportunity to replace my driveshaft and transmission. (and clutch and swingarm bearings) Only costing $500. -excluding horrific towing expence. (have road service now)
My KRS sits at 93K. about 1500 post major surjery. Bike has most of the good farckels, Staintune pipe / T-meister /Aeroflow / Wilbers in back + Progressive upfront / old school Hella "Comet" road lights... "C" bars.. ect.
I think it worth about $3000. + /-

Anyway...not posting my K here at this time. What is the worst thing you can say about a '98 Checkered K1200RS? My local indy told me he keeps a driveshaft for these bike in stock 'cause they fail often. These can eat alot of gas and tires if ridden hard. (I ride moderately) Touring mode..
The biggest appeal of these bikes is the smoothness. relaxed @ 70MPH with the 6th gear.
..? Have to check ergonomics. I am 6' 1" 34" inseam. "proportional " arm length.
Talk me out of this. Trash the K1200RS...

Not a real gas tank, just Tupperware.

I took one for a spin once. Seemed like a decent bike to me. They moved the blinker buttons about 1/2" which threw me off at first but that shouldn't take long to get used to.

As you've noted, there's some ridiculously low prices on them these days, even at dealers.

I always liked the taxi paint job. If I ever get one it'll be a taxi for sure.

I'd ask over at the BMW SportTouring and/or ADVrider site to find someone who has owned both.

I had a 2004 K1200RS for 2 years. I sold it and went back to the K11LT. The K1200RS at idle sounds like a box of rocks. Seat was the second worst seat I ever sat on. Intergrated brakes are nice till you need to change the fluid. If you like to work on your own bike the K12RS is not the bike for you. Too many dealer only things on it. I am glad I sold mine when I did cause I got a good price for it. today I dont think I could get 1/2 what I sold it for 2 years ago. I hope to keep my K11LT adn K100RS for many years to come. That is why I try to stock up on parts I tink I might need n the future. Before the supple disapares.
