Hello K bike gurus
I have a problem on my 93 K1100LT with my engine cutting out on rare occasions.
I noticed it was happening when I turned the handlebars all the way to the right. I pulled the tank and checked the wires underneath and traced it to the ignition wires coming out of the bottom of the ignition tube.
When I put my finger on the bottom of the tube I can feel the ignition parts moving under the rubber cover when I turn the key. It's right there where the strand of wires goes in that the loose connection is.
It's really difficult to get in there and I'm not sure how to remove the cover to get at the wires.
I guess the wires don't have enough slack and have been pulled by the steering once too often.
Any suggestions as to how to get in there and see if a wire is grounding or slowly coming loose?

If your switch is like my k1100rs you have to remove the switch from the bike. I removed mine by taking off the handle bar cover that has your abs/hazard/heated grips butons. that let's you see the 2 break off bolts that BMW put in so they can say only BMW can take them out.
I drilled them out. I used a center punch then used a 1/8" drill bit and a drill bit that was bigger than the bolt to drill the head off. Slide the ignition switch out from the bottom, take bolt stubs off the switch housing.
I found new bolts at my local parts store, just took one of the bolt stubs and matched the thred and size.
I hope this helps. _________________ In the words of the stones
