so my bike needs a new seat. that is blatantly obvious if one were to look at my bike. there is currently a sargent on bmwmoa's fleamarket for $250. is that a good price for that seat? is it gonna even work for my bike? the ad says it will work with 93s but i just wonder if that is true. tried to look through max's fiche to find the part number of the seat pan but couldn't find anything.

the current seat (in its appalling state) is an 11 year old corbin. i like it, and i like the look on the corbin site. however, is it possible to find one used for a decent price? i've looked places i know of (ebay, ibmwr, moa, etc.) and haven't seen much show up. do you guys suggest just plunking down the cash for a new seat all together? any other places i should be checking?

An option to consider this winter would be to have it recovered. If you like that well why get rid of it.

Hi,
A week ago I bought a brand new Corbin for $100. The previous owner bought it for his '92 K100RS, then sold the bike. The Corbin was never mounted. I met the PO a month ago and, just in conversation, he told me about the Corbin. I bought it and it is now mounted on my '95 K75RT. I was lucky, but I'm not the only one.

I think $250 is a bit much for a used Sargent seat or even a Corbin. I've seen nice ones go for a lot less on e-bay.

w/re Corbins and other high end aftermarket seats:

$250 is a typical price for a used, excellent condition seat.
$100 is dirt friggin cheap. You were very lucky, Phil.

Any good upholsterer should be able to recover the seat for about $100. More if you want nice leather. At least that's what a couple places around here have charged friends.

well, i might consider recovering it, but i'm not sure the padding is salvageable. i like the seat yes, in terms of looks and materials, but it definitely isn't very forgiving any more.

i guess i should do some checking around to see what the upholstery rate is around here.

oh. hmm. wish there was a way to test out seats by sitting on them. sadly i don't know anyone locally that has a corbin, sargent, meier or otherwise.

Corbins are very hard, my bike came with a new, never mounted Corbin. I put it on right away and although it is comfortable, it is hard as a rock, even after 10k miles.

I'm sure if you were to have it recovered, it could also have the foam replaced as well. Send them an email and get a quote, although you'll have to be without a seat for a few weeks.

I had them do the Corbin on my 81RS . I don't ride it nearly as much, like not in over a year, but the seat is great.

They use a medical type gel pad material and cut it into the old seat, then recover. Their choices of covering materials is limited, but check em out, see what YOU think.

Just another option.

I don't think that's abad price on teh Sargent, but how would you know if it fit you?
